I drove my jeep down the street, with Zane's hand in my free non driving hand.
He kissed the back of my hand, and I glanced at him. "I can't believe you were planning that this whole time," I said keeping my eyes on the narrow road. "You know me, always plannin' and shit," he smiled, satisfied with himself. We drove up the hill to our house, and there was a moving truck outside. "I guess Heath and Elton decided to move in today... Of all days," Zane said. "Hey, it's alright," I said, pulling into our drive way. We both got out of the car. I threw my purse over my shoulder, and walked toward the Uhaul "Hey guys!" Heath announced jumping out of the Uhaul. "Long time no see!" he laughed, hugging me and kissing my cheek, then hugging Zane. "Heath get over here and help me move this couch," Elton yelled from the Uhaul. I smiled, and took Zane's hand. We walked inside through the garage and there were two luggage sitting at the door. "Heath! You forg-" Zane started rolling the suitcase over to his car.
I furrowed my eyebrows. "Zane?"
He said nothing, and kept walking to his car.
"Zane! What is this?" I asked running down the drive way to him. "Just get in the car," he said, loading the suitcases into his car. "Zane," I said. "Bryn c'mon, it's a surprise," he said. I stood in front of his car, watching him close the hatch. He opened the passenger side door. "Are you going to kill me and throw me into a ditch," I asked.
"If I wanted to do that I would've already," he laughed. I rolled my eyes, and got in the car. "Heath c'mon!" Zane yelled.
Zane hopped in the backseat, and Heath go into the driver's seat.
We drove to what I assumed LAX, and Heath dropped us off. "Have a nice flight lovebirds," he smiled, and drove away. I still had no clue where we were going.
"Can you please tell me where we're going?" I asked. "You'll see when we check our bags!" Zane said, walking next to me into the airport.
I looped my arm into his, and we walked to the front desk to get our tickets, and check our bags. "Hi how are you two?" the woman asked. She had her thick brown hair tied up in an updo. She was young, but older than Zane and I.
"We're great," Zane said smiling, and getting his ID out. I shuffled through my purse and found mine too. We handed them to her, and she typed a few things on the computer. "Brynlee," she said handing me back my driver's license. "Zane," she said, handing him back his. Our luggage got thrown into the abyss that is the baggage sorter. She handed Zane our plane tickets, and we walked to security. "Can I see them?" I asked sweetly, cuddling up to his arm. He laughed softly. "Hmm... Maybe later," he said. We finally got to security, and Zane gave up trying to keep it a secret. "You ruin every surprise,"he grumbled, holding my plane ticket in front of him. I laughed, and snatched the ticket from his hand.
It read LAX to JFK.
"New York?" I asked. He smiled. "There's a bigger surprise once we get there," I furrowed my eyebrows, thinking about what it could be.
Nonetheless I was excited to go to New York. I hadn't been there since I was 16.
We went through security, and walked to our gate.
"So I have a few questions," I said, after a few moments of us walking in silence. "Bryn-"
"They're valid questions, and as your future wife, you should probably answer them, because you know what they say. Happy wife, happy life,"
Zane rolled his eyes, and smiled, slithering his arm over my shoulders. "Okay, what are your questions," he asked. I kept pace with him as we walked through the airport. "Okay, one, who packed my suitcase. Please tell me Kristen or Gab or any of our friends that are girls," I said.
"Kristen did," Zane laughed.
"Oh thank god," I said, relieved. "What babe you don't trust me?" he asked, almost offended. I smiled and pushed his face back with my palm.
He kissed the side of my head, and we found our gate.
"Second question," I said as we walked toward the seats. "What's the surprise?" I asked.
"I'm not telling you," he said. We sat down, and I brought my knees to my chest, and got comfortable because we didn't board for another hour. Zane got his laptop out so he could edit this weeks video. I held his bicep and laid my head on him. I admired my ring. "You haven't even met my parents, or Rosa," I said. He looked down at me. "I'm sure I'll meet them sooner or later," he laughed. I laid my head comfortably on his squishy arm, and drifted off.
"Flight 768 to New York at 3:38 PM is now boarding in gate E,"
"Babe," I felt Zane, holding my head up. I opened my eyes. "Hey, we're boarding,"
I rubbed my makeupless eyes, and grabbed my purse, stretching my arms up.
"Was I snoring?" I asked, getting up, and popping my back. "Yeah," he laughed, putting his laptop away, and getting up. I laughed, and I grabbed Zane's hand and we got into line with all the anxious passengers about to board flight 768.
"First class passengers please step up," the flight attendant said. "C'mon," Zane pulled me up. "First- First class?" I asked.
"Mhm," he smiled his dorky smiled. "I'm good like that," he said in his and Heath's ratchet voice. I kissed his cheek.
We scanned our tickets, and walked down the long hallway to the plane. We had seats A and B, and we sat in the big white chairs, and got treated like royalty. I love first class.
Once everything got situated, and I got my fifth glass of champagne of the day, and passed out on Zane's shoulder.
~
"Baby," Zane said, playing with my hair. My eyes fluttered open and I saw the seat in front of me, and I turned and looked at Zane. "We're here," he smiled. I stretched my arms up, and cracked my back. "Yay," I said, in a raspy morning voice.
We grabbed out carry on's, and exited the plane.
We walked through JFK and went to the baggage claim, and grabbed out luggage.
"Lemme get a taxi," I said as we walked out. "No, no," Zane said, pulling me back. "I have it covered," he smiled. I furrowed my eyebrows, and we went out into the cool spring New York air, and he walked us to this blacked out Mercedes limo. The driver got out and put our bags away. "Zane," I said, turning around. "You didn't have to do all this," I said. He kissed me on the forehead. "Just get in the car baby," he said, opening the door for me. I slid in, and saw a pair of tanned, toned legs that had silver pumps on. I followed the legs to see a familiar face, and I looked around and saw two more familiar faces.
I smiled, and tears rose in my eyes. I quickly scooted to the seat across from me and gave the small body and huge hug. "What are you guys doing here?!" I asked, giving hugs all around.
"Well-" his deep voice boomed. "Zane called me and told me he was proposing so I obviously had to see my oldest daughter after her engagement,"
I looked at Bea in a designer dress and beautiful heels, and Blake wearing a Tux and expensive shoes, and my dad in a high neck sweater, and slacks. I looked at Zane getting into the car. "Zane!" My dad roared. Zane shook my dad's hand. "It's so nice to finally meet you," he said getting comfortable in the seat. He shut the car door, and out driver started driving. He shook hands with Bea, and Blake, and sat back.
"Let me see the ring," Bea said, smiling. I put my hand in hers and she looked at it. "Oh my god!" she exclaimed. She looked at Zane. "It's gorgeous!"
