As soon as I arrived home, I demanded to see the note.
"That's definitely him." I decided.
"We got that much, thanks." Harry rolled his eyes.
"What do we do?" I wondered out loud. "Y'all have a plan, right?"
Silence.
"Guys? You do have some sort of plan, right?"
"We.... well... no, not really." Chlow finally broke the silence.
I sighed. "We aren't going to get anything done if we don't have a plan!" I scolded them. "We have to think of something, even if it takes all night."
"You need slee-"
I cut Elijah off. "E, I love you, but if we don't end this now, none of us will be sleeping because we'll all be dead." I told him.
Everyone was silent. Maybe I had come off too strong, maybe I was too rude to them.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean-"
"You're right." Sherlock walked in, looking emotionless. "I'm not letting my Bunny get away from me. Anjali is right. We have to fight."
"But how?" Sophia asked. "We can't just poof up a plan."
Chloe perked up. "I have a plan!"
"Okay.... maybe we can." Sophia sat down. "What is it?"
"Hades and I have a special relationship. If I could get him here, we could put him back inside the box."
"The box?" Peppermint walked in.
"Yeah Pep, it was in Anji's room the other day." Elijah began to stroke Pep's fur.
"Oh, I opened it earlier. It was disappointing. There were no peppermints!"
Everyone was deathly quiet.
"You what?" I asked quietly.
"I opened the box." Peppermint licked the table.
Harry's face became very red. "LISTEN HERE YOU SON OF A-"
"HARRY!" I scolded. "Don't blame Pep, he doesn't know any better. It opened, okay, now we have the know how to close it. Arguing and accusing won't help the situation."
Harry sat down, looking deflated. Chloe took his hand.
"Babe, I don't want you getting hurt." Harry looked at her.
"Puddin, what choice do we have?"
"You realize this is almost impossible." Gabe piped up. "We don't even know how to summon Hades, let alone push him back into the box."
"Well, do any of you have a better plan?" Chloe asked.
Silence again.
"I thought so. Let's start thinking."
•••
"Babe, I really do not feel comfortable letting you do this."
Chloe stood in our living room, her runes across the room. Chloe's runes could control everything, including her life. They were now in plain view. It was the perfect opportunity for Hades to come and snatch them up.
"I still don't believe this is going to work, Hades isn't an idiot." Gabe mumbled.
"Of course he is. Otherwise he wouldn't have messed with us." I couldn't help myself. I smiled smugly and felt a hand take mine. Leaning in to kiss him, I opened my eyes.
"AHHH!"
"Hello, Sweetcheeks."
Elijah grabbed me and pulled me backwards. Hades. I had almost kissed Mary's father..... ew.
"You called?"
"Wow, it worked." Sherlock marveled.
"Oh not your silly little plan." Hades snatched up Chloe's rune bag. "It was the smell of desperation, and my boredom."
Harry made a desperate grab for the runes. When that didn't work, he tried words. "Listen, asshole. Where's Lydia?"
"Lydia? I assume received my note."
"Yeah, what does it mean?"
"Why... it means she is gone, of course. Never to return."
