As you can see, the picture above is Selena (Your boss/Cousin)...
Reader's POV
When I woke up this morning, something told me it was going to be a horrible day. I wasn't really in the mood for that, so I tried to act like I was going to have a positive attitude for the whole day. I got ready with a smile on my face and an uneasy feeling in my stomach. I told Shizuo I was fine... not sure he believed it though... I left as fast I could and headed to work. When I got there, there was a sad aura around the workers. I ran to Derrin who was setting up on stage. "Derrin, what's wrong with everyone today?" I asked. Derrin looked at me with guilt and regret, which made me even more worried. "(Y/N), I think it's best you go talk to Selena..." He answered with a hand on my shoulder. I frowned and rushed to Selena's office. Without thinking to knock, I burst through the door. There she sat, at her desk, face in her hands. Tissues lay all around her. She's crying... "Selena..." I trailed off, walking towards her and placing my hand on her shoulder. She looked up with an expression of terror. "Oh, (Y/N)... I hoped I wouldn't have to see you like this ever again..." She whispered. "Selena, what's wrong? Please tell me!" I begged, desperately. "(Y/N), sit down." I did as told so she could continue. "I have been going to the hospital quite a bit lately... I'm so sorry I didn't tell you sooner... I found out this morning that I... I have cancer..." She said, quietly. I stared at her in shock as I started to tear up. "You're joking right? I mean come on, you're joking! That's ridiculous! No! I refuse to believe it!" I yelled as I stood and paced around the room. "(Y/N), please..." Selena cried. I sighed and hugged her. "Why...?" I cried. It was like a knife was shot through my heart over a million times. "I'm sorry, Selena. We'll get through this. I'll stand by you no matter what." I said confidently, rubbing her shoulder. Selena nodded slowly. "I'm gonna go talk to Derrin and give you some time." I said before leaving the office. I saw Derrin walk into the cafe's kitchen and I followed. I ran into his arms and cried. He softly stroked my hair and tried his best to calm me down. "Do you want to talk?" He asked. "Yes, please..." I whispered, pulling him to an empty area and sitting down. "I remember everything from the moment we met.
Flashback (in 5 year old Reader's POV)
"(Y/N), Shizuo, Kasuka, it's time to go." I heard mommy say from the other room. I ran in and put on my shoes, along with Shizuo and Kasuka. "We don't want to keep Auntie waiting now do we? It's your first time meeting your cousin~! She's only a few years older than you guys. You'll get along fine." Mommy said with her arm wrapped around daddy. I smiled and grabbed my brothers' hands, dragging them out to the car. On our way to Auntie's house, I rested my legs on both of my brothers' laps and fell asleep. When we got there, I ran out of the car and up to the front door. I knocked and waited patiently before a girl about a few years older than me with brown eyes and curly blond hair opened the door. "Are you (Y/N)?" She asked, tilting her head. I nodded, smiling. "Come on in~!" She chimed, allowing me through the door as the rest followed. "I'm Selena~! It's nice to meet you three~!" She smiled brightly at my brothers and I. My brothers introduced themselves and we went to her room to play. After that, Auntie and her ended up moving into a house across the street from us and we became closer. She was like the sister I never had. She would stand up for me at the park when I was bullied. When the "incident" happened, she was a little late to comfort but she tried her best. To sum it up, She was another person I could expect to be there and talk to me like 'one of the girls'. After we all graduated, she opened the cafe and Derrin and I were the first to be hired.
Flashback Over
Still Reader's POV
I calmed down after talking to Derrin. "I should go and tell Shizuo..." I said, standing up. "I'll stay here and tell Selena." Derrin replied. "Thanks, Der-bear." I said, smiling. He nodded and shooed me off. I started heading out to find Shizuo when Izaya showed up. "What's wrong with my dear human~?" He questioned, resting his arm on my shoulder. "I'm having a crisis... I need to talk to Shizuo." I replied. "Why don't you talk to me~?" Izaya pouted. "Thanks, I appreciate your concern... But, this is a family problem." I sighed, hugging Izaya. "Fine~... I'll at least help you find him." Izaya said, taking my hand and pulling me around the city until I saw Shizuo walking with Tom. "Thanks, Izaya." I said, kissing him on the the cheek. "Yup, I'll come back to talk to you later, (Y/N)-chan~." He said before leaving. I looked at Shizuo and already started tearing up again. "Shizuo!" I called, running and jumping into his arms. "(Y/N), what's wrong?" He asked in concern, setting me down. "Selena... she has cancer..." I said as a tear rolled down my cheek. He gave me a look of shock. "How's she holding up?" He asked softly. "She's not taking it so lightly..." I replied, hugging Shizuo. "It's very shocking and life changing. If you're strong for her, she'll be fine so don't worry too much." He assured. I nodded and kissed him on the cheek. "I'm gonna head home... I love you." I said. "I love you too. Go get rest." I smiled and nodded at Shizuo and Tom before walking away to Shizuo and I's apartment.
Izaya's POV
Sitting at my computer, I had finally figured out why (Y/N) was so upset. I smirked as I grabbed my phone. What would happen if I put my plan into action sooner?... She's sad enough as it is... I wonder what her reaction would be to some more bad news...
