"So what's our lesson going to be today?" I asked Jack over the phone as I sat in bed, finally putting A Court of Thorns and Roses down after reading all morning.

"No lesson today," Jack said. "I want to take you on a date,"

"A date?" I asked him. "Like a romantic date?"

"Mhm," he said. "So why don't you get ready today, and we'll both get all dressed up, and I'll pick you up at six. Does that sound alright?"

"That sounds perfect," I said, "I haven't been on a date since... well, I can't remember."

"I'll see you at six," he said, and I could almost hear the smile in his voice. "Bye gorgeous,"

"Bye," I said, hanging up the phone and setting it next to the book, finally getting out of bed for the first time that day and standing up. Joe had more meetings today with Caspar and their team, leaving me alone in the house. I had finally learned my way around the neighborhood, which made Joe feel a lot more comfortable about leaving me alone.

I quickly made myself a couple of pieces of toast and ate them before hopping in the shower. I stood under the water for awhile, letting the hot water sting my skin and wake me up a little bit more.

Jack had left me a few hours to get ready still, and it didn't usually take me super long, so I lounged around for a bit in my robe, and reading a little more of my book. By the time it started getting a little bit later, I finally started to get ready, doing my hair first by curling it and then moving onto my makeup. I wasn't the best at makeup, except I had managed to teach myself to do eyeliner when I was still in school, so it was simple, but it still looked nice.

I opened up my closet, looking for something nice. I wasn't the type of girl who got dressed up a lot, unless I had gone to one of those fancy red carpet events I had learned that we managed to get invited to every now and then. I recognized a black minidress that I had been wearing in a picture of Jack and I on a red carpet for the MTV Movie Awards one year, and pulled it off the rack, holding it up to myself in the mirror before pulling it on.

I managed to wear a dress every once in awhile, but there was still no way I was a girl who wore heels, ever. So I found a pair of black flats in my closet and slipped them on, giving myself a once over in the mirror before hearing a knock on the door.

"Coming!" I yelled, grabbing my purse and making my way up the stairs and opening the door to find Jack standing outside in a suit and holding a bouquet of flowers.

"Wow," he said, watching me with an astonished look on his face. "you look.... wow."

"Thanks," I told him, "you look pretty wow, yourself."

"These are for you," he said, handing me the flowers and my smile grew.

"They're lovely," I said, admiring them. "Let me go put them in a vase before we head out."

"Here, let me get a picture of us quick while you still have them." he said, wrapping an arm around me and taking a selfie of us while I went to go take care of them. I came back to find him typing on his phone before my own phone buzzed with a notification that he had tagged me in a picture on Instagram.

jack_maynard: got myself a rather lovely date for this evening

The message was accompanied with the red heart, the heart eyes, and the kissy face emojis. I giggled before shutting my phone again and slipping it in my purse, taking his hand.

"So where are we going?" I asked him.

"I managed to actually get reservations this time for a nice restaurant, so this is already going a lot better than our first date." he said with a giggle. "But we're going out for dinner, and then going to a film. Cheesy, I know, but I knew you didn't have any memories of our old cheesy dates, so I wanted to make a memory for you to have."

I kissed him then, and he kissed me back softly, resting his hands loosely on my waist. "Thank you," I told him then, "this is the sweetest thing anyone's ever done for me."

Dinner had been absolutely lovely, and the movie was even better. We sat with his arm around me, and he'd give me little kisses now and then. We saw a movie called The Space Between Us, about a boy born on Mars who found a way to get to Earth when he was sixteen to meet the girl he was in love with. I guess it was something I'd been counting down the days for, and tonight was the first showing of it.

"I hope you had fun," he said as he pulled back into the driveway of Joe's flat to drop me off.

"It was perfect," I told him, "this is better than anything I could've pictured."

"Went a hell of a lot better than our first date did," he said, smiling.

"You said that our first date ended in us making out in your car, right?" I asked, and he nodded, a small blush creeping up on his cheeks. "Well, Joe's not home, so the couch might be a more comfortable place if you wanna come in for a little bit?"

Jack almost ran out of the car then, grabbing my hand and pulling me along with him. I followed him inside and sat down next to him on the couch as he cupped my face in his hands.

"Tell me if I go too far or make you uncomfortable in any way, okay?" he asked, and I nodded. "I don't intend on going far enough to make second base, but if I do that's as far as I'll go."

I giggled, "Just kiss me, you idiot," I said as he leaned forward, pressing his lips to mine.
