Chapter 7

"It's ironic how our hearts can still get hurt by something we've seen coming."

"Oh, my gosh! I haven't seen you in so long, girls!" Chloe said with the same excitement, pulling a chair to sit next to Scarlett, who didn't look so pleasant to see her, but she smiled at her anyways. All of us, of course, gave her a really tight hug, congratulating her on the ring and she kept smiling that really annoying smile that I really don't know why it bothered me so much.

Actually there are many reasons why I find it annoying I just can't figure out which one of them is the one that's bothering me that much right now.

I and Niall made an eye contact, he smiled and for a second I wanted to do the same and talk to him but I shouldn't so I just looked the other way, eating. I can feel his smile slowly fade as he sat facing Chloe, which means he sat next to me and I had to stop myself from looking at him again as I found my food really interesting and fascinating more than them.

"Hey," I heard him say, I turned my head over my shoulder to meet his blue shiny eyes. I had to stop me again from showing any emotions.

"Hi."I said with no emotions, "Congrats." I put a tight smile on my face.

"Thank you," I didn't give him the chance to say something else as I returned back to my plate.

"So how was Paris? Did you enjoy your time there?" Candice asked Chloe about her 'work trip'.

"It was breathtaking, but I couldn't enjoy it much because of work. Hey, remind me to spend our honeymoon there. It would be so amazing, babe." she said the first part to Candice and then she looked at Niall and placed her hand over his. I couldn't help but look at the scene that was in front of me.

"Anything for you, love." he smiled back, squeezing her hand and their hands kept intertwining over the table.

"So how did this happen? Why didn't you guys tell us sooner?" Grace asked, referring to the engagement.

"Well, it all happened too fast. We had to spend some time together to compensate for the time we lost while I was away and the next thing I know, I'm engaged!" she happily showed us the ring again.

"The ring looks nice, I'm sure you looked everywhere to find something like that." She added, pushing her blond-ish hair over her shoulder and I couldn't help but feel anger pile up a little as I remembered the day when Niall asked me to help him look for her proposal ring and he wasn't the one who found it. I did.

"Yeah, Niall's choices are always amazing." I found myself mumbling underneath my breath, but I think it was loud enough for Niall to hear it. His smile faded slowly which made me sure that he actually heard me.

"Sorry I was so out of reach this past week." he said to me, scratching the back of his neck. I wanted to slap him on his face, but as much as the idea was tempting I will show him that it's fine and I wasn't hurt from what he did.

"It's no big deal, I'm happy for you both."  I faked a smile, looking at them both, but he didn't look convinced.

"Wanna hang out tomorrow? There is so much I wanna tell you." He said. I awkwardly looked at Chloe who was looking back at me with a smile on her face.

"Don't look at me like that. These are things between you two friends and you can do whatever you want." she assured me, taking Niall's hand in hers again. I looked at their hands from the corner of my eyes, without saying anything.
