Chapter Twenty-One: Safety Measures

AUTHOR'S POV    

Standing on that pavement...looking at the shattered pieces of his windshield so many thoughts are running through Laurent's mind. He's sure Josh is responsible for this and as he continues to gaze at the wreckage he thinks of the reasons for this certainty. When Laurent first broke up with him he had the same reaction and ordered Laurent to leave then. Breaking the news to him this time and hearing him say "this is the second time you've done this to me" Josh is ten times angrier. Although Laurent never knew him to be violent, remembering the look on his face and hearing the venom in his voice Laurent can't put it past him. Laurent hates that he hurt him but doing this is not ok and it definitely won't change anything. Laurent couldn't have been more sincere in his apology and while he can understand his pain Josh has officially made it worse. Not only that but Laurent also has a law firm and his employees to protect. Speaking of which he has to go back inside to check on Andrea and Dave. He takes one more look at his damaged car then at his surroundings to see if anyone is outside that possibly witnessed this. When he sees no one he turns around to go back inside. Meanwhile, Dave is keeping Andrea away from the window and as they wait... 

Dave: "You ok"?

Andrea: "Yeah I'm fine. Thank you. I'm just shocked. What could that have been"? 

Dave is in shock himself. He shakes his head slightly and his mouth is open as if he's going to say he doesn't know but now Laurent is walking back in...

Dave: "What happened boss"?

Laurent: "Somebody threw a brick through my window".

Andrea: "Oh my God". 

Dave: "Who would do that to you"?

Laurent and Andrea look at each other as if they're both thinking it's the same person...but considering Andrea doesn't know much about Josh her first thought is that it's Todd which stuns her because she's known Todd for years and if it's one vibe she never picked up from him is that he's destructive or violent. Of course she won't completely rule him out but it's definitely a hard concept to grasp. Both of them realize that Dave's question has yet to be answered but Laurent won't dare go into all the drama that's been going on lately so he said the first thing to come to his mind...

Laurent: "Maybe it's someone I took to court and they're trying to get back at me. I don't know". 

Dave: "I'm sorry this happened to you boss". 

Laurent: "Thank you". *pause* "Look let's end work now and get out of here. I don't want to take any chances so Dave will you follow Andrea home to make sure she's safe"? 

Dave: "No problem at all".  

Andrea: "What about you Laurent"?

Laurent: "Don't worry, I'll be fine. I have to call a tow truck after I call the police so I'll just have the tow company take me home". 

Dave: "But we can't leave you alone. Let's all leave together".

Andrea: "I think that's a great idea". 

*brief pause* 

Laurent: "Yeah oki". 

Andrea watches the confused yet hurtful look on Laurent's face and it nearly crumbles her to pieces. Naturally she wishes this didn't happen at all but now that it has she can only hope that whoever the culprit is will be caught quickly. She takes a seat far away from the window to wait for the police to arrive as Laurent and Dave have a small conversation among themselves. Then Laurent asked him to make sure the windows and doors throughout the office are all locked. The moment Dave steps out Laurent came over to Andrea...
