Chapter Twenty-Three: Seize

AUTHOR'S POV

Andrea and Dave are rendered completely frozen as they listen to Laurent and watch his face as he said he has to call the detective. Now their eyes are darting between his face and the note in his hands. They don't know the exact words written on it but if the look of tremendous fear in Laurent's eyes say anything it's that this situation has magnified tenfold and now the time is ticking away in finding the person behind this madness. Speaking of time, once again it's as if it's standing still and the three of them are in some kind of alternate universe. When one of them is finally able to say something to Laurent they see him pull his phone out and call the detective... 

"This is Detective Duval"

Laurent: "Detective, it's Laurent Bourgeois". 

Detective: "Mr. Bourgeois. Just the person I needed to speak to. Listen we still haven't been able to locate Josh but we're trying a different direction in finding him". 

Laurent: "Well that's why I called you". *pause* "He's here". 

Detective: "Where is here"?

Laurent: "I had court today and I noticed a note on my car when I came out". *pause* "The letter is typed but I know it's him detective".  

Detective: "You're in the parking deck correct"? 

Laurent: "Yes. Ground B". 

Detective: "Ok. I'll be right there. I have an idea that will get to the bottom of it". 

Laurent: "Great. I'll see you soon". *pause* "And detective"?

Detective: "Yes"?

Laurent: "Can you bring someone to check my car for a bomb"?

For some reason this question completely shocks the detective. Of course he understands why Laurent asked for that but it still throws him off and as such it takes a few moments before responding...

Detective: "Yes I will". 

Laurent: "Thank you". 

Detective: "You're very welcome and I'll be there very soon".  

Laurent releases the call then slowly looks over at Dave and Andrea. Laurent can just see the fear that's come over Andrea. She's looking around the parking deck seemingly in a panic as if she's looking to see if whoever did this is hiding and waiting for just the right moment to attack the three of them. He doesn't even know what to say to her...but his heart is also too broken at the sight of her fragile state to say anything. Dave takes notice and attempts to comfort her as much as he possibly can. He takes his hand and smoothly rubs up and down her arm...

Dave: "It will be ok Andrea". *pause* "We're both here for you and we're never going to let anything happen to you". 

Andrea nods but by this point a few tears have fallen from her eyes and that pretty much does it for Laurent. He steps forward and wraps her in a hug then whispers...

Laurent: "Don't cry Andrea. It will be oki. I will never let someone hurt you". 

It takes a few more tears and some soft hitching between her breath before she replies...

Andrea: "I'm worried for you Laurent". *pause* "I hate you have to go through this".

Laurent: "I'll be oki too. No one will hurt me or the people I love". *pause* "Trust me Andrea. It will be oki".
