Jade woke up
With a jolt of pain
In her stomach.
The darkness scared her
But not as much as this
Cause she knew
It was time.
Luke felt her sit up
In the bed
And turned sleepily
To lull her back to sleep.
But he saw her eyes
Filled with fear
When she turned
And said the words he'd feared
for months.
"It's time."
He shook his head
Not believing her
She was only
8 months along
surely it wasn't time.
But she gasped in pain
And told him he needed to wake up.
"I'l pack a bag."
She knew it wasn't urgent
But it sure felt like it.
She turned on the lights
And timed the contractions
As he put on clothes
And packed her bag.
She breathed in and out
And tried to remember
To stay calm
But she knew
These were her last
Hours.
