It was Thursday. The last day of our finals. Then we graduate Saturday. I walked up to Zerena from behind and wrapped my arms around her waist, placing my head on her shoulder and leaving a soft kiss on her neck.

I waited for her to finish her conversation with her friend, Haley. Once she said goodbye she turned around and wrapped her arms around my neck.

  "Hey," she smiled.

"Hey," I smirked, leaning down to kiss her.

"Oh! Harper's getting some!!" My buddy, Jake, yelled as he and a group of my friends walked by.

I pulled away from Zerena and leaned my forehead on hers, "I'm sorry," I softly chuckled.

"It's cool. I think it's actually kinda funny," she whispered to me.

I smiled at her and she turned around to face Jake, leaning against me for support. "At least he does get some," she said.

"Ooohhhh!!!!!" The guys yelled. Jake's smile slightly faltered before a smirk replaced it.

"Well played, Carter, well played," he appraised her.

She curtseyed, "why thank you good sir," she said in a British accent.

The bell rang to go to last period and finish finals. The guys' laughs died down as they dispersed. Zerena turned back around to face me as I stepped to her side. I laid my arm over her shoulders and started for class.

I walked into my house and tossed my backpack on the floor. I walked around a bunch of open boxes that my dad has left all over the floor. I stopped at the last one when a word on a letter popped out at me.

HARVARD was written on a letter and it was addressed to me. I picked up the letter out of the box and found it already opened. I pulled out the letter and and read:

  Dean Harper,
We are happy to inform you that you have been accepted to The University of Harvard. Please let us know if you will be joining us in the coming school year by May 20th.
Yada yada yada

A huge grin took on my face as I felt overjoyed as I got accepted to the college of my dreams. I've wanted to go to Harvard for years, way before Zerena and I got together. Her being there was only a plus, and a huge plus at that.

I suddenly felt confused as to why my father had my acceptance letter in a box he was packing up. Just as the thought crossed my mind my dad walked into the room.

"Oh, Dean," he froze when he saw what was in my hands.

"Dad, why did you have this in one of your boxes?" I asked, holding up the letter.

He hesitated and when I asked again with a little more demand in my voice, he answered. "I didn't want you to go to Harvard."

"And why not?! Going to Harvard has been my dream since I was in the sixth grade! Why would you take that away from me?!"

Just then Zerena walked in the front door and was about to say something but stopped. I ignored her presence and glared at my dad.

When he didn't answer I yelled, "why dad?!!"

"Because she's going," he pointed to Zerena, "and I don't think you should throw your life away for some high school sweetheart that'll leave you the second you reach college!! Pining after her isn't going to do you any good!!"

"She's not why I wanted to go, Dad!" I spat the word, "I wanted to go before I even liked Zerena! Hell I wanted to go before I even knew what a crush was!! And Zerena and I going to the same college is just a plus for me!! I love her dad!! And I'm not throwing my life away or pining after her!! She is a big part of my life and I'll always factor her in when it comes to my choices! And nothing you do or say is gonna change that!!"

"She's only gonna leave you, Dean!! Can't you see!! She..."

"Get out!!!" I pointed to the door. He hesitated, "get out!! I will not have you stand here and tell me how my girlfriend will act once we reach college!! Especially when it's wrong!!"

He walked out the door and I let out a deep breath. Zerena walked up to my side and put her hand on my arm. I looked at her and she leaned her forehead on mine. A single tear slid down her cheek. I placed my hands on her cheeks and wiped away her tears with my thumbs.

"Angel? Why are you crying?" I asked in a soft voice.

"I love you, Dean. A lot. You never have to change anything or prove anything because I love you the way you are. And I'm happy beyond belief that you just stuck for me to your dad and that you're going to Harvard with me. And no matter what anybody says, I'll never leave."

By now Zerena had tears streaming down her face, one after the other, and all I could think to do is hug her close. I wrapped my arms around her and held on tight. We sunk to the floor as she cried and soon I had my own tears flowing down my cheeks.

I love Zerena, more than anything. I would never be myself again if something happened to her, happened to us.

Soon her tears died down and I pulled her face away from my shoulder.  I wiped away her tears with my thumbs and kissed her forehead. She noticed that I had started crying and hugged me tighter. In a way we were saying that we'd never let go, that we had each other. And that's all I could ever ask for.
