She was stupid. It wasn't a fact that she could hide, Oh Ha Ni was stupid. She wished she wasn't, she wishes she was like the other kids, she wishes she had been with the tops students in class A, or class C at least. But no, she was stupid Oh Ha Ni from class F, the lowest of the low.
One night, during a meteor shower, she wished upon them, wishing that she wasn't stupid, wishing that Baek Seung Jo would see her as a human being, not just the human definition of idiotic. She wishes that the name calling from Eung Jo would stop and she wishes to be free, meet people who don't know who she is, where she wasn't known as Seung Jo's shadow, she wants to make a name for herself.
-One year later-
"Oppa! Omma! Guess what!" Ha Ni squeals as she runs down the stairs, almost tripping over the last step, her excitement getting the best of her.
"Ha Ni! Idiot! Watch where you're going!" Barked Seung Jo who almost got knocked down by the idiot running down the stairs at a dangerous speed.
"Yeah, okay," She absentmindedly replied, too excited to show her family the letter in her hand.
Seung Jo was surprised, Ha Ni wasn't really interested in his presence for a change. He smiled. Maybe he would have a peaceful life from now on. His smile wavered slightly. Is that what he wanted? He walked up the stairs and into his room where he started to think it over, also making sure he had everything ready to start college in a weeks' time.
Ha Ni ran into the front room, envelope in hand. Mr and Mrs Baek were sitting on one sofa while Mr Oh was sitting on another, to their left. Ha Ni sat opposite her father and laid the unopen letter on her lap. The tension in the room was thick with nervousness and excitement all at once. They didn't want Ha Ni to raise her hopes up, they knew that it was almost impossible for the news to be good, after all, Ha Ni wasn't smart enough, but they still supported her in her decision. Now it's make or break.
"You sure you're ready?" Guem Hee asks Ha Ni, the girl was like a daughter to her and she absolutely hates seeing Ha Ni upset.
"It's now or never Omma!" Ha Ni replies, and with that, she rips open the envelope.
The room was quiet as Ha Ni read over the letter, the adults took that as a sign that things didn't work out and they were all thinking of things they could say to console the young girl in front of them.
"Oh Ha Ni, I'm so s- "
"I DID IT!"
Everyone was surprised at Ha Ni's outburst, but then they registered what she said. They all congratulated her and asked her to read out the letter, grinning wide, Ha Ni cleared her throat and recited what she had read on the paper.
"Dear Miss Oh Ha Ni, thank you very much for your application. We are happy to inform you that you have been accepted into Cambridge University! Your test results were impeccable and we are looking forward to having you enrol as a student here at our school. You have been granted a full scholarship to study health and social care and English literature. We look forward to seeing you soon."
The adults were speechless, they couldn't form a sentence. Their mouths clamped shut. Oh Ha Ni did it, she was accepted into the United Kingdom's first ranking college with a scholarship, they were so proud of the girl who has waltzed her way into their lives and hearts.
"I can't wait! I'm going to go pack!"
Ha Ni ran upstairs and grabbed her suitcase before packing her clothes, leaving enough to last her until Saturday, the day she leaves for the UK. She puts her music on and starts dancing around to Blood, Sweat and Tears by BTS as she packed, filling all her bags up with the stuff she will need in the United Kingdom.
