Chapter Four
It had been three whole days since Annabel had last seen the Celtic god; she figured that the god had something better to do for he probably saw the whole dancing thing boring, which would be no surprise to her, since the only thing that he was interested in, other than her soul, was taking her to his bed, where ever that was.
She didn’t mind his absence, with no one around Annabel could practice to her hearts content without worrying anymore about her injuries. People who say her dance called it a miracle of god, if only they knew…
Still something about his absence bugged her, did this mean he had no intention of help her with getting payback to the ones who did it? Perhaps it was because there was no challenge, he wanted to kill Johnathan and Sophia, Annabel did not, and she only wanted them to suffer for what they had done. If that’s the case then he might have not even bothered to agree into doing this in the first place.
The studio was empty when she came in to practice, she was usually one of the first people to show up, other than her dancing instructor, one of the others that would show up would be Maria, someone who danced for others, even dropped out of school because it cost too much when dealing with her mother’s medical bills. She was still new to the troupe yes, but this small thin girl was doing everything she could for her mother’s sake but also for her own love of ballet.
“You’re early again I see,” Anna said just a few feet behind Maria, causing the young girl to jump straight up from her stretching only to then fall over on her side from the sudden movement.
“Ow…!”
“Are you okay?” Annabel asked helping her sit up.
“Yeah,” she said while rubbing her left leg. “I’m alright; you just startled me is all.” She looked to Anna. “How are you feeling today?”
Anna just smiled at her. “You keep asking me that Maria, even though you know I’m perfectly fine now.”
“I know,” she said with a sheepish laugh but then her expression turned slightly sad even though she smiled. “I just, kind of wish that my mother would be healed like you did. Sounds silly doesn’t it…?”
A slight feeling of guilt came over Anna, if she had the power the Camulus had then she would heal Maria’s mother, the girl deserved a good life. When she first joined Anna had learned that the girl’s father walked out on them when Maria’s mother became ill, so far he had never bothered coming back. She only had her mother, no one else.
Weather Maria realized it or not the two of them did share something in common. Because if this Annabel wanted her to do what she could to succeed in this world.
“No,” she said softly while wrapping her arms around the girl and holding her close. “Wishing for something like that is not silly, believe me when I say this, if I could give this gift of a second chance to your mother I would.”
“I know, thanks for that,”
Annabel then got up and headed to the dressing room. “I’m going to go get changed, when I’m back why don’t you and I practice together alright?”
This seemed to brighten up her mood, causing Maria to smile cheerfully. “Okay!”
Once in the dressing room Annabel stared long into the mirror. The sad thing is I really meant that to Maria, she and I are so much alike it’s almost heartbreaking. The things that girl has gone through, the things that I’ve gone through. Why is life so unfair? That it takes the ones we love most away from us right when we believe all will go right? She then wrapped her arms around herself and shuddered recalling the last brief moments with Andria before he died.
