As we drove two hours to my mothers lake house, all I did was think about Kyle and Layla. How could they do that to me? Do I mean anything to them? It all just makes my head spin.

"Rory, I think your mom means well.'' Jen said.

The sound of her voice alone is enough to make me angry. It's sad really because Jen and I used to be so close, everything about our relationship changed this morning, when her my dad told me they secretly got married.

"Jen, my mom has a whole new life, and the only reason she is insisting on having me there is to put on a show for her family and friends to see.''

"Rory, your mother loves you.'' Jen says again.

"Almost as much as the mother in Flowers in the Atticc, loved her kids.'' I said.

Blair laughed in the backseat. "Shut up Rory.''

I looked at Jen, she was shaking her head. ''The mother in that movie, is nothing like your mother.''

"Well, she is pretty damn mean. They have similarities. I'm a secret in her new life, and she pretty much killed me when she left my dad. Because she left me hanging too.''

"Rory, the father died in that movie, the mother didn't leave.''

I snapped my head at her. ''Jennifer will you shut up, I am trying to make a point, and you know that.''

She shrugged her shoulders. ''All I am saying is, Beth really does love you.''

"Then why did she leave me?" I asked.

It was silent the rest of the way there.

--

As we walked up onto the porch of my mothers big beach house, I felt my stomach flipping around. I didn't want to see my mother. Or her soon to be husband Bill. Or his children who I refuse to meet. I guess I don't have that option anymore.

I stood by Blair on the porch of the house until my mother opened the door.

"Beth.'' Jen said and hugged her. I rolled my eyes, how fake can two woman get? I looked at Blair and shook my head.

"Aurora, thanks for coming.'' My mother said.

I smiled and walked into the house, that smelled like a mixture of vanilla and tropical. It gave me an instant headache.

"Hello, Aurora.'' Said a tallish looking man walking over to me. I smiled. "You must be Bill?"

He smiled, and held his hand out. I just looked at it. I heard laughing coming from the other room. I looked behind Bill's shoulder and seen a tallish guy laughing, he held his out and moved it up and down. I looked at him confused, then understood, and looked at Bill holding my hand out to shake his. He had a tight welcoming grip.

"Please call me Rory.'' I said.

He smiled. "Well this my brother Max.'' The tall guy walked over smiling. "Rory.''

I smiled a little. "Hi, and this is my friend Blair.'' I said.

"Hi, I'm Blair.'' She said.

''Yes, I got that.'' Max said.

I looked over at her and her face was all red. I couldn't help but laugh.

"Shall we go to the kitchen?" He asked.

I nodded and we walked down a long hall into an open kitchen. "This is my daughter, Kennedy.'' He said and a girl with long brown hair turned and looked at me. She had crystal blue eyes and the perfect skin tone. I already hate her.
