I've been in Florida for only about a month now. After the last time I kissed Jaxson, we started hanging out a little more. It's been great. But this morning it all felt differant. From the second Jai yelled my name, I knew my happy vacation was coming to an end.
"Aurora! Layla wants to talk to you!" Jai yelled up the stairs. When I opened my eyes the sun was beating down on my face, and my family was cooking something that smelled like dinner.
When I sat up I reached for my phone to see the time.
4:30 pm.
I slept all day.
"Rory! Wake up!" Jai said.
I stood up and almost fell back over. My vision was blurry and my head was spinning. I put my hand over my forehead until I started to feel normal again.
The smell of the food was even stronger outside my bedroom.
Jai was standing at the bottom of the stairs with the cordless in his hand.
"Thanks for letting me sleep all day." I told him.
"No problem darlin'." He said.
I rolled my eyes and grabbed the phone.
"Hello?" I said.
"Aurora?" She said. She sounded like she had been crying all day.
"Yes?" I said getting nervous , knowing this conversation wasn't just a friendly catch up.
"I really feel like I need you right now. Can you please come home?" She asked.
"Layla, are you okay?" I asked getting worried.
"No. I need my sister. I really really need you."
I looked up at Piper and her husband .
"Layla..." I said. "I'm more then 1,000 miles away from you and expect me to hop on a plan and--" I stopped talking.
I could hear her silently sobbing on the other end of the phone.
My baby sister needs me, and I'm in Florida. We have been through hell and back and she hasn't said she needed me once. Now she does, and I'll give her that.
"I'm coming Layla." I said. "I'll be home as soon as I can."
I hung up and walked into the living room.
"Piper I need to get back to Layla." My throat is closing and is dry and it's hard not to cry.
She looked at me and nodded. "Well I was planning on keeping you for a while, then leaving with you so I guess we can just go early." She told me.
Jai and Jaxson were looking at me. "Do you guys have a problem?" I asked.
They looked away and went back to looking at their phones.
I can feel tears coming and I know I am about to cry. I don't have the slightest clue as to what Layla needs me for so badly, but it must be bad.
"What is wrong with Layla?" Piper asked.
I shrugged and looked down at my hands trying to hold my tears back.
"How soon can we leave?" I asked.
Piper wiped her hands and walked away into her office. When she came back she was holding an envelope.
She pulled out five plane tickets and set them on the counter.
"We have opened dated tickets. So whenever you're ready." She told me.
"As soon as possible." I said.
