"Aurora it will get better.'' Layla says as we put our last boxes in the trunk of my car.
I turned to look at her. ''Layla, this will never get better, dad is dying and to make it worse leaving us with that trash we have to call mom.''
She frowned and walked into the house. I slammed the trunk shut and started my car. It's been two days and the news my parents just gave me is just getting harder to take. I don't want to leave my dad and Jen. They have been here forever, and now I am losing both of them. "Aurora, dad wants you.'' Layla calls from the door.
I climb out of the car and shuffle my way into my house, that is no longer home. "Yes?" I asked;
He walked across the kitchen and pulled out two letters from his computer desk. HE walked over and gave them to us.
"Promise, me you won't read these until I am not here to comfort you anymore.'' He said.
I looked at him, as the my throat started to feel heavy. I knew he meant when he was dead. "Okay.'' Layla said.
I just looked at him, while I fought back tears. ''I don't want it.'' I said.
He nodded. ''Yes you do, Rory.''
I shook my head. ''Dad, can't you just get chemo or something?"
He shook his head. ''We talked about this Ror.''
I nodded and he pulled me into his arms. This is the last time I will ever see him. The last time I get to ever feel his arms wrapped around me making me feel safe. I cried onto his shoulder.
"You will always be in my heart Aurora." He said.
"Just like the song.'' I cried.
He nodded. ''Just like the song.''
I sobbed some more and walked out of the room. You'll be in my heart.. By Phil Collins, is the song my dad used to sing to me, right before he left for work. He was a travel agent and important author so he wasn't home that often. I always hated when he left. So he would sing me the song. He burned it onto a CD for me when I was little and got scared when he wasn't home. I lost it when I was 16.
"Rory, I am meeting you all at your moms for dinner.'' He called after me.
I looked back. "I know, I'll see you there.''
He smiled and I walked out to my car. Blair was sitting on the trunk.
''Hey.'' She said.
I smiled and walked over. ''Hi.'
''Ready to leave.'' She asked.
I nodded. ''Oh, yeah.'' I say sarcastically
She frowned. ''I don't want you to move.''
"Me either.''
''I can't imagine life here without you.'' She says.
"I can't either. Without you. It'll be weird.''
"Just come and visit me..often.'' She said.
I hugged her. ''Of course.''
Layla honked the horn from inside the car. I scoffed. ''The which is calling.'' I said.
She laughed. ''More like bitch.''
I nodded. ''I'll call you tonight.'' I said.
She nodded and walked away. I climbed into the car. ''Can I say good-bye to my best friend?" I asked slamming the door shut.
