I woke up at midnight to a light knocking at my bedroom door.
"Come in." I say half asleep.
I sit up as the bright light from the hallway shines through the room , I wasn't able to focus on who was walking across the room until they stood at the edge of my bed. I switched on my light, to find Max standing there he looked a little upset about something and I was confused as to why considering our last encounter didn't end so well.
" What do you need Max?!" I asked annoyed because it's midnight and he's probably just in here to yell at me, or something ridiculous and stupid.
" I can't stop thinking about the look you gave me when I said that rude comment about your father's house."
I rolled my eyes and scoffed laying back down on my pillow I don't have time for this, I have school in the morning and I already have a big test to study for, usually I'd love that Max is right in front of me talking to me even if it is a fight. But right now I just need to get ready for school and this is not the time to come in and apologize. if that's what he's going to do.
"I'm serious Aurora I feel awful about it, I understand how hurt you are over your father's death and one thing is happening after another and I'm sorry."
I almost believed him, except Max isn't the type of person to come into your room at midnight and apologize.
"Max what is this really about?"
I asked getting impatient as the headache I was trying to sleep off was coming back and in just a few short hours I have to get back to school.
He looked at me and scoffed obviously annoyed.
"I'm just saying sorry I honestly cannot stop thinking about how hurt you looked earlier and I'm sorry. Is that a bad thing?"
There is something telling me he is telling me the truth. But there's another thing telling me that he was in here for another reason other than to apologize for something that happened 10 hours ago.
"Max, what is the real reason you're in here?" I asked sitting back up.
He stood still silently biting his lip at the end of the bed, as he was closely looking at me, thinking of what to say next. Only making me more suspicious of what he was really in here for.
"Max...?" I asked after a while of him being silent.
"I just had to make sure you were okay, Aurora. You can go back to sleep, I'm sorry for waking you."
As he was walking away I started to notice that there is something much more than just trying to just check up on me going on, there is something bothering him.
"Max, is there something you need to talk about?" I asked genuinely worried now, Max isn't the type of person to just come up to you with a problem, he just isn't. There has to be something deeper going on then just checking on me and I have to know what it is. I can't let him go to sleep upset if its this bad that he had to come to me of all people.
"I'm fine, Rory. Just go to sleep."
I'm beginning to realize that when he calls me 'Rory' it's because he's annoyed with me, so now I know there's something wrong. I haven't even done anything to annoy him.
"Max you just came in here to talk to me. I know if there something wrong just tell me what's wrong. You didn't come in here for nothing. is it about Tinsley?"
He stopped walking as soon as I said Tinsley, and looked back at me. His eyes are glassy and bloodshot and I can tell he's been crying. It was so weird to see somebody who doesn't show emotions at all, unraveled right in front of me. It was like I was opening a present on Christmas. But this is not a gift that you want to open.
