"but Mine's, cracked.
Wooaaaaaah,
Mine's cracked.
"Woaaaaah,
No idea where I'm-"
(i listened to this song on repeat yesterday and still somehow got the lyrics wrong i promise im not a fake fan)"Scott?"
My head shut up and my cheeks instantly red. Oh god, did Mitch walk in on me practicing? It was probably embarrassing, a song I'd written by myself...
Oh, no. It was Kirstin. I felt a twinge of disappointment... but that was probably just because it wasn't Mitch, not because of her. It was impossible to be disappointed around Kirstin, I think.
Wait, but how'd she get in?
Mitch walked out from behind her towards his bed and I felt myself almost literally pass out and die out of humiliation.
She smiled. "It was good, don't worry." I heard Mitch scoff. She gave a little giggle at that.
"Uh, thanks... what is it?" I asked, confused as to why she was talking to me. She gave me a piece of paper.

I just stared at the paper, confused as all hell. But she just grabbed my chin and pushed my head up to look at her."Ms. Colls (SHE'S THE CHIOR TEACHER.. I REALLY HOPE I DIDN'T ALREADY NAME HER AND JUST FORGET RIP IM SO SORRY) said we should audition... and I, uh..."
"She said yes." Mitch piped in. My eyes shot wide open.
"What?!"
Her hands were still on my chin though, so it came out more like "Wphut?"
"It'll be good for us!"
I stood up. "Kirstin, we've barely practiced at all."
"That's why we will practice." She said, and looked me dead in the eyes. "Haven't you always wanted to do something bigger? This is our chance."
"That was really cheesy." Mitch replied. "But I agree."

Scott was being a whiny little baby about the whole 'Make Melody' thing, but I was actually really excited. We didn't have to go for like another month, which made Scott freak out even more because apparently that isn't enough time for him to get ready.
Our choir class was double blocked, so Ms. Coll let us go to the practice rooms and rehearse the second half of every class. And on Sunday's we met up too.
Avi was an amazing bass. I was practically clinging to his arm at every second. Was I just desperate for love? I'm not sure. One thing was for sure though; he liked to take it slow. Maybe I just took things fast normally?
But I was afraid that he wasn't interested in me. Just... the way he would get so distant sometimes. I assured him over and over that I wasn't just trying to make Scott jealous, and I really did mean that. Whatever me and Scott had, whatever weird thing that was... is over now. And we can just go back to being normally as hateful as we used to be towards each other.
"Ok Kirstie, you asked for the Coke, right?"
"No, the Sprite. I feel a little sickish." She frowned and Kevin frowned sympathetically, handing her the can. She popped it open with a fizz.
"You were gone for like five minutes." Avi said and took the Coke from his hands. "I thought you were smart."
Obviously he was just joking by his tone of voice, and the way they both laughed, but Scott piped in.
"Actually, he's one of the top students in his grade." Avi raised his eyebrows.
"Wow. You guys are just best friends then, aren't you?"
Sensing the tension in the room, I grabbed Avi's shoulder. It was like I could almost feel Scott's eyes on us, but Avi managed to calm himself down. He didn't apologize though, and neither did Scott, as we ran through our audition song one last time.
-
Scott was almost bouncing out of his chair. "Guys! Our hotel for Make Melody has a water park near it!"I couldn't help but rush from Avi's side. "Really?!" I looked over his shoulder at the computer, and he nodded, looking back at me. He grinned. "Only about a thirty minute drive." I smiled wide back.
But then I caught myself.
I stood up a little straighter and made sure my smile quickly fell before quickly turning my head. Avi was on his phone, thank god, but Kevin and Kirstie were looking at me. I gulped and spoke without looking back at Scott.
"Uh... cool." He didn't have time to question my sudden change in mood (I could ask him why he was acting so friendly too, though) before I sped towards the door. Avi looked at me and I gave a little smile.
"I'm gonna get a soda." He just smiled at me and I let the door shut behind me with a sigh. But on my slow walk to to the vending machine, I felt a tap on my shoulder.
Kevin was behind me, four quarters in his hand. "You forgot this."
I blinked. "Oh, um... thanks." I looked down at the coins for a second, and I didn't even notice Kirstie until she spoke.
"It's so weird."
Me and Kevin both gave her our attention.
"You and Scott fit together like two puzzle pieces. In like... just, any way I guess. Even when you're fighting you're the perfect match for it." She shook her head. "Are... is there really any reason you guys have to keep on fighting?"
I probably looked as confused as I was. "What's wrong with how we are now?"
"I think what she's trying to say is that it's better to have friends than enemies, so why do you guys keep fighting?"
"For no reason?" Kirstie added to Kevin's statement.
I opened my mouth to speak, but it turned into a smile and a sarcastic little laugh. You know when people do that open mouthed smile and laugh like 'Wow, I can't believe you.'? Yeah, that.
"Me and Scott have plenty of reasons to keep fighting. He messed me all through middle school."
"You messed right back." She shot back.
"He started it."
"He was being harmless."
"He made a bet with Travis to date me for money."
"He only did that because of Alex! And I know he already told you that he didn't even know until that fucking day!"
I started at her wide eyed.
"How do you... know all that?" Kevin looked surprised, too, but Kirstin just looked mad and worried. She took a deep breath, obviously noticing that she had gotten a little bit too worked up, maybe.
"Me and Scott are... friends, I guess. We started texting over winter break."
I just started at her before I turned around to leave. She grabbed my shoulder.
"Wait!" I tried to shake her off but she grabbed my arm. "Mitch, I'm sorry... I just- I'm so sorry if you're mad, but-"
I turned around, tears in my eyes.
"I'm not mad." I whispered, so Kevin couldn't hear. "I'm jealous."
