We started out by shopping, and it was fun. But soon Avi seemed to be getting a little distracted.. and so did Kirstie and Kevin. Avi was apparently really interested in this store... and Kevin and Kirstie wanted to go feed the birds on the opposite side of town.
"How about we just... do one and then the other? We have plenty of time here..." Scott suggested, and I nodded.
"Yeah, or we can split up. Like me and Avi, and Kevin, Scott, and Kirstie..."
"How about." Kirstie poked my shoulder. "You." Then she poked Scott. "And him go to that store you were obsessing over back there."
"I wasn't-" Scott started, but Kirstie glared at him. I gulped; I might have heard him mention it to Kirstie so I suggested we all go there... just for me! Of course.
"Yeah." Kevin smiled, and so did Avi. Which seemed a little weird to me... that he'd rather be alone. But he probably just needed his space, and I didn't want to be too clingy, right?
But really? With Scott?
"With him?"
"You took the words right out of my mouth." I muttered.
"I'll be good for you." Kirstie argued, and as soon as you could say the words "pentatonic scale" we were separated. I gave Scott a little glare and marched ahead of him.
"Wait up." He muttered unenthusiastically and followed my lead.
It was a silent, awkward walk to the store. But surprisingly, Scott was the one to break the silence.
"Look at that." He pointed to a white hoodie with a velvety black inside and zipper. I raised my eyebrows and looked at him just to make sure, and yeah, he was serious. I mean, the clothing was great but he just sounded so... genuine.
"Yeah." I said, trying my best to sound genuine too, as much as I didn't want to. "You should, uh... try it on." God damnit, this was going to be awkward, wasn't it?
I saw it in his eyes when he looked at me and realized it. His guard had fallen down. That just confirmed my suspicion... that Scott really wasn't like that. He was putting up a wall.
"Oh, uh..." He obviously faked a sneer. "Well, now I don't want to."
I laughed a little, but realizing what I was doing I quickly stopped. A couple giggles still came out though.
"What?!" He snapped.
"Your face then. It was really funny."
He rolled his eyes and walked past me into the store. I guess I'm kind of lucky that he took that as an insult rather than me being genuine too.
We didn't really talk inside the store. He bought the jacket and a pair of shoes; silver with blue stars on them. I bought a long skirt-like pair of pants and some black lace panties. (If Avi didn't like them, I'd say they were a joke. But I feel like this trip might be the time, you know?)
We walked out and I realized, oh hey. We have absolutely nothing to do. I thought about it for a second. Maybe I could get him to go meet up with Avi... but he probably wouldn't want to. Or maybe we could go see Kevin and Kirstie? I'd feel too bad for Avi though...
