It was Zoe's first day back after 5 weeks, during that time she had spent everyday with little Jamie and had also took it as an opportunity to decorate their apartment much to Will's demise. He had originally planned to get a contractor in - namely Matt - to do the work but Zoe had insisted she was quite capable, Will had managed to form an argument on the basis that Zoe had been shot not only a week ago, he had thought his argument had been successful but that was proven otherwise when he returned home from shift to find Zoe re-working their electrical system.
Zoe made her way inside the precinct the familiar musty smell hitting her as she walk towards the front desk. As Zoe approach the desk sergeant she had grown to love had her head buried in paperwork and it remained in the paperwork she spoke up.
"Are intelligence unit all upstairs?"
Her head still stuck in the paperwork she was doing "I'm not sure they're up for visitors right now" Zoe had been fairly shocked that Platt hadn't recognised her voice because it was the one distinctive thing about her.
"Not even this visitor" Zoe grinned as her head jolted up with the thought of someone responding to her sharpness. "You...." Shock was clear in her tone, she quickly composed her manner and said "Welcome back Severide".
"Good to be back sarge, are they upstairs?" She questioned her as a smile began to creep on her face.
"They just got in" The Sargent informed the young detective.
"Thanks"
"Hey Severide, good to have you back" Platt called to the detective who was halfway up the stairs.
Zoe almost bounced up the stairs where the whole team seemed to be in the middle of a briefing, taking a quick glance at her watch 7:20, she wasn't late thankfully. She was excited yet nervous to be back.
"And finally I'd like to welcome back Detective Severide" Voight pointed towards the stairs were Zoe leant against the banister. The whole team looked back but a quick observation from Zoe only made her smile falter a little, where was Ruzek? He hadn't been hurt, no one had mentioned it anyway.
She gave a slight wave in return and greeted the team accepting a hug from everyone even Burgess, wait, how long had she been in the unit? There was a new guy too, rather handsome at that.
"Welcome back Zo" Antonio had seen his best friend yesterday but today she was on the job back in harms way and he couldn't but want to protect her.
"Come ere" Kevin and Zoe had been at odds with each other on a few cases but that had clearly all been put to one side as he embraced the tiny woman who must've been at least a ft and a half shorter than him. "I'm glad you're back Z"
"Thanks Kevin"
"We caught a case." Hank informed Zoe after she had been welcomed back by everyone then introduced the handsome man Zoe had noticed "Detective Rixton. This is Detective Zoe Severide"
"Pleasure to meet you Detective Severide" Charming came to mind as Zoe accepted the hand he offered her to shake.
"Just Severide's fine. We have a thing about surnames around here" Zoe joked. It was good to be back in the unit, looking around slightly hoping she didn't look rude she noticed that her desk was exactly like she left it, with paperwork all over it. Muttering under her breath about 'must've been Tonio' she turned her attention back to the new detective.
"I've heard lots of good things about you" Rixton complimented.
Zoe wondered who had spoken to him obviously Antonio sprang to mind first but pushed those thoughts to a side "All lies"
