Gut Wrenching Pain

I sat cross legged on the hotel bed, my favourite FNAF plushie, the only one I had packed, clutched in my arms as I allowed myself to cry. I buried my head in my plushie Foxy's soft body, and began to rock back and forth.
Why do I have to be so fricking stupid!
I should have stayed.
What am I going to do now?
I'm so stupid and worthless, just like they said!
My breath hitched as I cried. I couldn't stop, and I felt myself spiralling into hysterics. I couldn't breathe. It felt like someone had wrapped an invisible cord around my throats, and was restricting tighter and tighter, closing off my airways. I wrapped my arms around my stomach, pressing down as a wave of doubt crashed over me, sending me crashing off the bed onto the floor. I sobbed loudly, and collapsed to the ground, still gripping Foxy in an iron grasp.

After about three or four different hotels, my heart was in my throat, and I was beginning to lose hope. But I never gave up. I sat in the car with Felix as Ken walked into the second last hotel on the list. I kept my legs tucked into my chest as Felix gave me a one armed hug.
"Hey, it's okay, we'll find her," he promised. I slowly nodded my head. I could feel the panic growing bigger and stronger every time we failed to find her at each hotel. By now, with only one more hotel in our list, I was already shaking, and I felt like someone was squeezing my heart, as if they were trying to make it explode. I could feel my breath shake as I inhaled. Felix squeezed my shoulders as he felt my panic increase.
I glanced up to see Ken walking back to the car, head down, a frown of his face. I knew she wasn't there. I took a deep breath. The car door opened and Ken got in, staring at his hands.
"She wasn't there," he said softly, confirming my suspicions. I let out a small sound, not quite a sob, but almost. I straightened my back.
"Call Mark. Ask him how many he has to go."
Felix pulled out his phone and Ken started the car. Felix put the call on loudspeaker so we could all hear what Mark had to say. After not even two seconds, the call was answered.
"Hey, any luck?" Mark asked quickly, hope in his voice. I tried not to let my own voice tremble as I replied.
"N-no. We have one more to check. What about you?"
Mark sighed.
"We have three more, headed for the first now. Jack..."
Mark trailed off, falling silent. I frowned.
"Spit it out Mark," I snapped. I heard Mark sigh again softly.
"Jack, we are going to find her, okay? I promise. We won't stop looking."
I stayed quiet, eyes on the long highway ahead. I barley paid attention to Felix saying goodbye and good luck to Mark, before hanging up.
The rest of the drive was spent in silence.

I sat curled on the floor for what seemed like hours, although it was probably only an hour at the most. I eventually felt my breathing become regular again, and my shaking reduced. Now I didn't feel scared or uncertain or anxious or anything.
I just felt numb.
Cold.

I managed to force myself to eat something, a granola bar that I found in the bottom of my bag. I could only bring myself to eat about half of it though. I felt sick. Then I went and took a boiling hot shower. I turned the hot water all the way up, not even noticing that my skin was rapidly turning an alarming shade of red. I sat in the corner of the shower, closing my eyes and let my head fall back against the wall. I went through the motions of lathering soap and rinsing it off about ten times. I just couldn't rid myself of the feeling that I had to scrub my skin.
I eventually dragged myself out of the shower, and collapsed, just inches from the bed. I managed to pull the thin blanket off the bed and wrap it around my shivering body. I felt my sobs rise again, and let myself sink into the ground and depression.
Then I heard a knock on the door...

We finally made it I the last hotel on the list. We all sat in the car, just sitting there. I felt like I was going to throw up. I slowly, mechanically, got out of the car. I heard Felix and Ken get out, slamming their doors shut as they followed behind me hesitantly. I pushed open the door, and walked straight over to the desk clerk. She smiled at me, her bright red lipstick flashing. Ken and Felix hung back by the door. I cleared my thirst, feeling the words stick.
"I, uh, I was wondering if you have seen this girl," I asked, showing the clerk a photo of Ripley on my phone.
"Has she checked in at all? Or maybe you've seen her around?"
The clerk stared intently at the photo, and I thought I saw recognition in her eyes.
