We walked into the house, and my heart was pounding as loud as ever at the thought of seeing Jack. I glanced around. Ken and Felix appeared and crashed into me.
"Ripley! Oh fucking hell, you're okay!"
I laughed weakly and hugged them back.
"Thanks guys," I chuckled. I looked around.
"Where's Jack?"
The I caught sight of him, frozen in the doorway, a look of shock and disbelief on his perfect face. My breath left my lungs as I tried to speak, to say anything that would make up for what I had done. He just stared at me.
I felt tears well up in my eyes. I looked down at my feet, ashamed and hating myself.
"I'm sorry..." I whispered, broken and done. Then, two green, faded converse appeared in front of my own. I looked up in shock.
"Ripley..." Jack said, his voice cracking. I could see the tears in his eyes, and I watched as one perfectly formed teardrop slipped down his face. The next moment, his body was crashing into mine, hugging me tighter than ever before. I felt my chest heave as I bawled into Jack's shoulder, and I felt his own body shake with his own sobs. We clung to each other like we were lifeboats, and the only thing keeping the other alive. Which was true.
I felt Jack grab my face, and our lips pressed together. I tasted salty tears, and then pure Jack. I squeezed my eyes shut, and wished for this moment to never end.
It had to though.
Jack pulled away, tear marks clearly visible on his pale cheeks. He held my cheek in his palm.
"I thought I'd lost you," he murmured.
"We searched every hotel in a three hour radius. We looked everywhere! I thought you'd run away from me..."
I kissed Jack's lips again, effectively shutting him up. He gazed at me.
"I would never run away from you Jack," I said firmly. "I went because I wanted to protect you. To keep you out of all this."
A knowing look crossed Jack's face.
"The messages and comments," he replied softly. I nodded, and Jack hugged me again, his bright hair tickling my nose.
"Tell me next time," he complained. " I can help. Don't worry about me being involved. I'd rather be in the firing line than see you run off and get hurt. Okay?"
I nodded and gave him a small smile. He hugged me again. This time he didn't pull away.
That night, Mark, Felix, Bob, Wade, Ken, Jack and I were all stretched out on the line of mattresses we had dragged into the living room and placed in the floor in front of the TV. It was the last day before we all flew or drove back home, and nobody wanted to be alone that night. We all just wanted comfort and safety and friendship. I was laying in the middle, sandwiched comfortably between Jack and Mark. I had my left leg flung over Mark's thigh, and my torso was curled into Jack's side. It was warm, and comforting. We were watching a horror movie, some murder spree one. It reminded me of Jack and I, the first time I had been to his house. I snuggled further into his side, and his arm wrapped around my waist. I looked up at him, the light from the movie lighting up his bright green hair. I smiled.
"I love you," I said quietly. Jack looked down and smiled, and I could see the reminiscence in his blue eyes. He leaned down and kissed my forehead.
"I love you too," he replied, and I smiled, and sunk back down to watch the movie with my best friends.
...The End...
