It has been three days since the Grant incident. Brad prohibited Ace and Austin from telling me any more than I already knew.
It was driving me insane! The code, the secrets, the lies, it was all right in front of me but still behind a curtain of innocence and false promises.
"Escape." Brad said tying my hands to the back of a chair.
"You're fucking kidding me!" I yelped as I felt how tight the rope was.
"Yeah, I'm not kidding. I'll give you twelve minutes and thirty seven seconds, to figure this out. Then we'll go for a run and maybe a fight, good?" He smiled.
"What if I can't escape?"
"I'm in the next room. Don't struggle aimlessly. You'll end up hurting yourself, I've tied you up pretty tight."
"What if I do manage to escape? What do I get then?"
"Then ice cream's on me."
"What if I don't escape?"
"No ice cream. You've got potential, it's very simple, if I can get you to do this by yourself, you'll be more confident. Look around and find a solution."
"One last question, why the specific time limit?"
"It's the maximum amount of time I'd leave a hostage alone." He flashed me a smile and left the kitchen with an apple in his hand.
The knife was too far for my reach. My feet were bound to the chair.
I tried tugging but it didn't work. I slowed down and thought about it for a moment and began wriggling my hands trying to create some space. The elasticity should allow enough space to be created for one hand to wiggle its way out. He had separately tied my hands and then bound them together. I looked at the clock- eleven minutes to go.
The front door opened and I felt a presence behind me.
"Hey Belle, how was your day?" Austin. He walked into the kitchen and casually poured himself some water.
"Don't call me Belle!"
"Or what?" He smirked.
"I'm not going to be tied up forever." I reminded him.
"But for as long as you are, I think I'm going to take the risk of doing this." He said coming up to me and pecking my lips.
"Austin Prince I'm going to kill you!" I shouted.
"Now that I think of it, was that your first kiss?"
"You're a dead man now Prince!" I groaned.
"It was? Wow, I'm sorry sweetheart, I didn't realise." He said picking the knife up.
He walked towards me, "Don't you dare! Brad!" I called out.
"Stay still babe, I don't want to hurt you."
"Austin don't do it! I'm supposed to—"
"Take help! When an ally tries to help you, you let them and stay quiet as possible." He said coming close to my ear.
"That's not what he said—"
"Actually he's right. You never refuse help unless your ally would be putting their life in danger. You never let another person take the hit for you. But you always help your team. Even if it means putting yourself in danger."
My hands were free from the ropes as the knife swiftly cut through the fibres.
I immediately snatched the knife from Austin and placed it against his throat, holding his back to keep him in place.
