"Izabelle?"
"Uh huh?"
"I don't want to get out of the car. I mean if you'd like to go inside have a proper dinner that's okay with me but I'd really like to just stay in the car."
"The car's fine." I said.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah-- yeah I'm sure."
"Because I'm pretty sure this isn't the kind of date you expected--"
"But this isn't really a date, is it?" I bit down on my lower lip. I knew what he had been trying to do all this time.
He sighed. "I just wanted to get some dinner. Dates just require so much effort."
"But the best ones usually don't consist of too many words."
"No they don't." He smiled. "They consist of a lot of food and a lot of chewing. Very passionate chewing." He chuckled.
"So what are you going to get me to eat without getting out of the car?"
"Straight to the point, I like it." He joked.
"I'm serious you know? I'm hungry." I folded my arms.
"No I think you deserve a nice dinner, in a nice restaurant." He nodded.
"But I want to stay in the car now!" I groaned.
"Alright, alright. Drive through?"
"Drive through!" I said excitedly.
"You know, I was right. I was always right about you. I knew I was right about you. Austin didn't believe me at first but I knew."
"What do you mean?"
"Nothing... You're just exactly the kind of person I expected you to be."
"I--I am?"
"Yeah."
"And what exactly did you expect me to be like?"
"Beautiful." He said and nodded. "You're beautiful."
"Are you sure you aren't confusing me with someone else you know?" I asked.
"At first I was afraid I was but-- I figured you're just another version of beautiful. Something I wasn't used to-- a different kind of beautiful but still just really really beautiful." He looked away and passed a hand through his hair.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, yeah I'm fine." He flashed me another smile.
"Is something wrong? Something you're not telling me about?"
"Everything's fine Princess." He seemed to go cold for a second. His entire demeanor changed, I knew something was wrong.
He parked the car to the side of the road.
"I need some fresh air-- if that's okay? I'll be back in a few minutes."
"Can I come with?" I asked.
"I'd like to spend some time alone, don't worry I'll be here, I'm not going anywhere, it'll just be a short walk."
I nodded.
He left me alone for a few minutes. I liked the silence. It gave me some time to stop my heart from popping out of my ribcage. He did something to me? He made me feel so much more than I was used to feeling. Austin made me feel things too-- just not with the intensity that Brad did?
Austin was this funny smartass who had his way of making my smile.
But Brad could make me cry. Without ever wanting it really. He could say nothing, just stare at me, smile even? Just the pain in his eyes was enough to make me bawl my eyes out.
