Love At First Hate
Chapter 1 - New School

"Hi my name's Lauren Jauregui, and you are?" No that sounds too demanding and you'll look desperate to have friends. Cool down Lauren, take a deep breathe and practice one more time.

"Lauren you don't want to be late for the first day of school do you?" My mom called from downstairs, before I could practice one more time. "Coming!" I yelled back.

I'm so nervous to meet new people. We moved to California this summer and I miss Miami so much. It's not like I had friends because I didn't. I've always been shy and insecure about myself. Before taking a step forward I would think all the negatives. That's the only reason why I'm looking forward to school. So I can erase my past and be more outgoing. You know... have friends. I only had one friend in Miami, but she left without saying goodbye and I would always blame myself. Always thinking, I annoyed her, or, I was too boring. Well enough of that. Today is the day of a new start, right? I'm supposed to be happy about me not get upset by the past.

I looked at myself in the mirror once more. Smile Lauren your future is bright. I chuckled at that thought and walked down the stairs. Here I go! I reached towards the knob, twisted it open and before I could take a step forward my mom called my name.

"Yes mom?" I asked her as I peeked my head out the door to see her smiling. She walked towards me with a paper bag in her hand.

"Smile okay? Meet new friends and meet new people." She said. She's the only person that understood me when I cried late at night because of my friend, and how lonely I was. My mother had my back, and she's also the reason why we moved here.

"I will, thank you mom. I love you so much." I hugged her, and I began to feel her inhale and exhale fast. I noticed she was crying, she always felt bad for me. "I'll be fine mom I promise." I looked at her teary eyes as she nodded. I kissed her on her cheek and went out the door.

The California summer would later come to an end. But welcomed me with the sun beaming on my skin. The road was empty as i walked on the lonesome sidewalk. The morning sky was a perfect shade of blue and yellow, with no clouds at all. The birds chirped causing their beautiful melody to fill my head and walk in peace. California is so calm. Crack!

I turned around and noticed... nothing. I shrugged it off and walked slowly. Crack!  I heard, the crack again which freaked me out. What if I'm about to get kidnapped?! I walked faster and faster. "HI!" Someone yelled from behind causing me to drop my lunch and turn around to meet a pair of eyes. She smiled at me as she approached. How long has she been following me? I grabbed my paper bag from the floor quickly and stood back up.

"My name's Dinah Jane," she extended her arm and I gladly took it. I know I'm not supposed to talk to strangers but something about her made me feel nice. "I'm Lauren." I followed my moms advice and smiled at her.

"Is it fine if I call you Lo?" I nodded not having anything to say. We began to walk together in silence. For me it was awkward but for her it was normal.

"Where you heading to?" She asked me as she moved aside her bangs. She was pretty nice so far and I'm hoping we become friends. Erm.. I think I'm in a rush.

"Um school." I really wanted to tell her more but I didn't in know what. I always want to make a conversation but I'm too shy all of a sudden. What if I say something wrong?

"What high school are you headed to?"  She asked, I took out my schedule from my back pocket and answered her. "Blissenfield High School." I said unsure. Her eyes lit up with happiness and smiled.

"Me too. May I see your schedule?" She asked once again. I was so glad I had someone to be with at school. I can start off easy. She examined my paper and smiled once again.
