It had been raining for hours. Adrianna was honestly tired of looking out the window at her desk, but she couldn't help it. It was three o'clock, and she still hadn't heard anything from Tom. She knew he had been too good to be true; Adrianna should've known better than to get her hopes up. Guys were always disappointing her; why should this one be any different? Oh, probably because he had seemed so different than any guy she had ever met.

"Girl, you need to start getting ready if you're going on that date," Valarie interrupted her thoughts. Adrianna had almost forgotten that her friend had stayed the night. She didn't have much company. Her only friends in the area were Val and Marisa, who was currently out of town visiting her family and wouldn't be back until the next day.

"I don't know if I'm going," Adrianna replied quietly. "I haven't heard from him yet."

Valarie said nothing to this, and walked back out of the room. Adrianna closed her eyes, and rested her head in her arms. She had given up. A single tear rolled down her cheek, but then she stopped herself. Adrianna was not going to get herself all worked up about this.

As she sat up in her chair, Adrianna felt her phone go off in her pocket. The girl pulled it out, glancing at the unknown number on the screen. She stared at it blankly for a moment before answering. "Hello?" she questioned.

"Adrianna?" a voice asked back.

"This is her," Adrianna replied.

"It's Tom. Sorry, I would've called you sooner, but I had to take my dog to the vet this morning," he apologized. "Had to get her immunizations and what not."

At first Adrianna was unsure of what to say. She had never heard that as a reason before; at least he had called, she thought. "It's okay," she replied. "Dogs are family, ya know."

She heard Tom chuckle. "Timba is definitely family. But anyways, are you still up for dinner tonight?"

"Oh of course," Adrianna smiled, even though he couldn't see it.

"Great, pick you up at about six?" he asked.

"Sure! Anything in particular I should wear?" she wondered.

"Um... something like what you were wearing last night would work just fine," Tom answered. "We're not going anywhere too fancy."

"Works for me," Adrianna stated. "You need my address?"

"Of course I do, silly," Tom said. "You can text it to me here in a bit."

"Alright, will do Tom," she declared.

"But I won't keep you; I know you need to get ready and what not," he laughed. "So I'll see you at six."

"Sounds good to me," Adrianna smiled. "See you then. Bye for now."

"I'm looking forward to it. Bye, Adrianna," Tom concluded.

Adrianna hung up the phone, though she immediately texted him the address. She tossed her phone onto the desk. The girl ran to her closet, throwing the beaded curtain out of the way as she searched for something to wear. She stared blankly for a moment before she pulled out a green dress similar to the one she had worn the night before.

She quickly found a few accessories and a pair of shoes to match. From there, Adrianna ran to the bathroom and set her clothes inside. Her rushed nature caused Valarie to peek her head in from the living room.

"What are you doing?" she called out.

"I have three hours! I need to get ready for Tom!" Adrianna yelled back.

Before Valarie could respond, Adrianna shut the bathroom door on her. The girl knew she had to hurry and get ready; so much to do, and not enough time to do it in. The girl quickly showered, and began working on her hair and makeup. Adrianna fought with her hair for a moment before deciding on just pulling it back into a clip. At the last possible minute, Adrianna slipped into her dress and shoes.

The girl emerged from the bathroom and went to the window. The rain had cleared up and the sun was beginning to poke out from behind the clouds. Adrianna smiled to herself as she stared out at the city before her. She was excited, there was no denying that.

"Is that what you're wearing?" Valarie popped up next to her.

"Well yea," Adrianna found herself blushing. "Think he'll like it?"

"I can only assume," Valarie said. "I never met the guy."

Adrianna turned away from the window and went quickly went back to her room to grab her purse and cell phone. She joined Valarie in the living room once again and took a deep breath. She was getting incredibly more nervous by the minute. It had been on a while since she had been on a first date with a guy. Adrianna certainly didn't want to give Tom a bad impression of her.

She looked out the window, looking for him and his vehicle, though she didn't know exactly what or who she was looking for. She didn't see what he had left the club in, and she couldn't make out his features in the dark lighting that night. She watched cars pull in and out of the parking lot for several minutes before a black BMW pulled into a parking lot; it was the same one that was at the club last night. That must be him, Adrianna thought. The girl watched a guy step out of the vehicle and head towards the door. Adrianna knew he didn't live in the building, so she knew that had to be Tom. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself as there was a knock on the door.

She ran to the door, surprised she hadn't tripped in her heels. Adrianna attempted to compose herself, and then opened the door to see a guy about her age standing there with his hands in his pockets. He had blondish brown hair and light blue eyes. A crooked smile was on his face, something Adrianna found herself enjoying. He had on a pair of jeans and a gray suit jacket layered over a white t-shirt. Adrianna felt a tad over-dressed, but she hoped he didn't notice.

The two stared at each other for a moment before either one of them spoke. "You ready?" he eventually asked.

Adrianna barely nodded before glancing over her shoulder at Valarie, who was still seated on the couch. "I'll be back in a bit, okay Val? Don't destroy my apartment while I'm gone." The blonde girl mainly ignored her friend and kept watching the television, so Adrianna took that as her cue to leave.

She stepped out into the hallway beside Tom, and shut the door behind her. The two of them made their way outside to his car. He opened the passenger side door and let her in. Within a few moments, the two of them were pulling out of the parking lot.

"So is the Olive Garden okay with you?" he asked; Adrianna smiled at the way he said "Olive Garden."

"Perfect, actually," Adrianna agreed.

"Excellent."

Adrianna sat quietly in the passenger seat, twiddling her thumbs. She was still really nervous about this date. And by all means she should've been...
