A/N: I can't promise happiness-especially not when I just ripped my favorite pair of jeans- but I can promise you crazy-fast readers with an update...
Tris is silent in my car. She sits up straight in the seat, facing forward. She doesn't even glance at me.
"Tris," I say her name. I haven't said it in weeks. It feels foreign on my tongue, lacking the affection it once had.
"Four." Her voice is cold, heartless. I guess it would be.
It makes me feel terrible, especially when she uses that nickname. I stop at a red light. "I screwed up."
"No shit."
I sigh, gripping the wheel tightly. "I guess if I ask for forgiveness, you won't give me any?"
"Not a chance in hell."
"Thought so." I mutter. A silence falls over the two of us.
"Why did you do it?" She asks, her voice quiet. "Why would you do that to me?"
I pull into an abandoned parking lot and kill the engine, turning to look at her. "If you gave me time to explain-"
"Explain? Explain? What is there to explain? I wouldn't have sex with you, you got sick of it, and you went to some other girl to get what you couldn't have with me." I open my mouth to tell her that's wrong. "And let me guess- no, I'm not right, that she threw herself at you."
"She did!"
Tris fixes me with a cold, hard glare. "Yeah, sure. And I'm a fucking unicorn." She opens the car door and climbs out, starting to walk.
I smack the steering wheel with my fist and climb out, chasing after her. I grab her arm and spin her around. "Where the hell are you going?"
"Home." She rips her arm out of my grip and keeps walking.
"Are you nuts? Some psycho'll kidnap and rape you for sure!"
"Better than riding home with you." Getting shot and bleeding to death would be less painful.
"Tris," I run a hand through my hair. "Let me explain. Please."
She lets out a sharp sigh. "Fine. But you have five minutes before I get out and take my chances with the psychos and rapists."
