A/N: Someone shipped me with Ashton Irwin I'm not sure if my self esteem just shot up because he's attractive af or if it just shot down because he's attractive af
My phone rings on the table next to me, and I check the caller I.D. Shauna? Why would Shauna be calling me? She never calls me.
I shrug it off and pick up the phone. "Hello?"
"Hey Four." Shauna says. "Tris here wants to say something to you."
Here we go, I think. "Okay?"
The phone makes a few noises as it's passed from one hand to another- at least, that's what I think is happening. "Hey, Four." Tris mumbles.
"Hi." I say. We haven't spoken since I went over to her house. "What's up?"
I hear someone say 'go on' through the phone. Tris says something, but I can't understand what she says. She then repeats herself. "Sorry for not listening to you the other day." She says. "Maybe...maybe we can hang out and you can explain it to me?"
I'm so surprised that I forget to respond for a minute. "Yeah. Sure. Um...do you want to meet up at the park at ten?"
"Sure." She says. "See you then."
"Yeah.." I trail off. "Bye."
"Bye."
I hang up the phone.

I climb up into the jungle gym-thing and set my black backpack on the space where some of the metal bars connect. This thing is like a huge web of metal bars. Actually, that's exactly what it is.
A black figure climbs up and sits with me, a little above and to the right of me. When they pull down their hood, a gold ponytail spills out. Tris. "Hi." She says.
"Hey."
We're both quiet.
"Did you hear? My mom's actually alive. And she came back." I sound bitter even to myself.
"Is that a good thing?" Tris asks.
"I'm eighteen years old and she wants custody of me. It's kind of funny that she comes back now, since I was just pulling together evidence to make a case against my father for all of the abuse."
She stares at me for a moment. "You're going up against your father?"
I nod. "Yeah. I realized that I can't keep letting people control me. I need to grow up and fight back, and that's what I'm doing now."
"Tobias, that's...that's great." She sounds almost proud of me.
She just called me Tobias, I realize. I decide not to mention it.
I grab my backpack and pull out the two glass bottles I brought with me. "Do you want one?" I ask.
She laughs. "What is that?"
"Honestly? I have no clue. Some lemon drink or something. I think it's Italian." I can't read the label because it's in a different language. I'm barely passing Spanish- what the fuck makes people think I know what this shit is.
She takes one and we both open them. She sniffs it. "It's definitely lemon."
I nod. "Definitely." It's a very strong scent.
We both take a sip and choke it down. "Jesus," She says, coughing. "What the hell is that? That's some sour shit."
I laugh. "I have no fucking idea." I think it's lemon soda. What the hell do these people drink wherever this came from?
We laugh about it some more and dump the shit out.
"So," I say once we've calmed down. "You wanted to know what happened?"
Tris nods, gripping the bars next to her thighs. "I want to know everything. Don't leave anything out."
I nod and tilt my head back, looking at the stars. "You know that we went to the party and all of that. I had one beer, because I didn't want to be pressured to drink some possibly-drugged-mystery-drink. I didn't even drink the whole thing. Anyway. I sat down on the couch and Brit came over and sat next to me. She was flirting and touching me and I kept pushing her hand away and moving away and telling her that I had a girlfriend. She leaned in and kissed me, I pushed her off, and someone got the picture before I could push her off. Then I left."
Tris is quiet. "Is that all?"
"Unless you want to hear about me hunting down Uriah, Zeke, and Tommy, going to Wendy's and getting them waters and me a frosty, forcing them to drink said waters, dropping them off at their houses, and then going home and brushing my teeth until my mouth was numb then yes, that was it."
She shakes her head. "I can't believe that all this time I thought that you would cheat on me."
I shrug. "I'm not as much of an asshole as you think."
She smiles. It fades quickly. "Do you...never mind."
"What?"
"Never mind."
"Beatrice Prior."
She laughs at the use of her full name. "That sounds weird."
"What?"
"You calling me Beatrice. You've never called me Beatrice."
"Well then, maybe I should start."
"Please don't."
"I won't." I promise. "Now, back to our previous topic...what were you going to say?"
She groans. "You'll think I'm stupid."
"That would be difficult to pull off. You might as well tell me."
"Fine. I was going to ask if you think we still have a chance."
I narrow my eyes. "A chance at what?"
She shrugs, pulling her knees up to her chest. Her finger traces a pattern on her boot. "Being a couple."
"Well," I clear my throat. "That all depends on when you're ready. I'd be more than happy to call you my girlfriend again, but I don't want you to rush yourself into it, okay? We can be friends before we're dating again."
She nods. "Maybe we could try the whole friend thing? See how that works out first?"
I smile. "Of course."
