Chapter 3

"Mavis, please let me in. I know I have no right to be here but..."

"Yeah you're right. You don't. Now please leave." I was suddenly furious Richard had the audacity to show up at my house after he helped Lucian take my son? Not to mention he was behind the Delfunie invasion with Ross, who was once my best friend, hired Richard to administer a drug to prisoners, Lucian included, that turned them into monsters.

"Mavis, please just here me out." I tried to shut the door on him but he stopped me.

"Why should I?" I asked.

"Because I can help you get your son back."

I immediately let him in. I knew I couldn't trust Richard after everything that happened but it's the only lead we have right now. I can't turn him down. I just hope Ragnar isn't too pissed when he gets home.

"Hey, Emilee we have a guest, please add just a little more chicken just in case he stays for dinner." She just nodded, cutting up another piece. Mom walked in the door then and I had her help Emilee while I pulled Alex aside.

"What is it? What's going on?" He asked me.

"Richard is in the living room." I whispered. Alex became wide eyed. "He said he knows where Jax is."

"And you believe him? Mavis, he'd say he had him in the back seat of his car if it meant you'd let him in." I just sighed and walked out to the living room. I didn't care if he was lying, he knew something and he wasn't leaving this house until he told me. I walked out and saw that Richard was sitting nervously on the couch. Ii was about to speak when Ragnar's car pulled in.

"Crap." I walked to the front door as the boys ran in and Ragnar didn't look happy. I waited for him at the door after. I told the boys to go upstairs. Ragnar came in and I tried to act calm.

"Don't be mad." I said quickly before he could see Richard in the living room. He suddenly got defensive.

"What did you do?" He asked. I looked behind me and started fidgeting with my fingers.

"I have a lead on Jax." Ragnar looked shocked then happy. I looked towards the doorway and his eyes followed mine. "Richard's in the living room." He no longer looked happy. Before I could stop him, he was storming into the room, grabbing Richard by his shirt.

"You son of a bitch. How dare you even think you could show up here. I don't care if you do know where Jax is, I'd rather find him myself." He said through gritted teeth. I quickly intervened and tried to pulled them apart but it didn't work out so well.

"Yeah? And how's that going? It's been months, Ragnar. It's been months and you're still no closer to finding him then you were then. So now you're playing house." I finally got them apart and tried to take a deep breath. Alex was standing in the doorway. I looked at him and tried to stop myself from asking the question that's been burning in the back of my mind.

"Why did you do it?" I asked, everyone looking at me. "Why did you help Ross, Richard? Why did you administer the drug to all those people?" He took a deep breath and looked at Ragnar before turning to fully face me.

"I did it because I didn't have a choice, Mavis. At first, it was just a job to pay some bills. It was just medical testing, that was it. I did what was asked of me and by the time I realized what Ross was actually doing, it was too late. Lucian and the others were created and there was nothing I could do to change any of it. But I can help get your son back. I want to help you get your son back." I looked to Ragnar but he was just shaking his head. I pulled him out to the hallway.

"Mavis, no. We are not taking any help from him. We will find Jax on our own." Ragnar said before I could start.

"Look, I know okay. I witnessed his track record but we don't have any other leads now. He's all we have. We don't have a choice." Ragnar dropped his head and took my hand leading me back to the living room. I didn't understand what he was doing so I stayed quiet and I just kept looking at him.
