--Letters and Hints --
"Skylar! Darling, I am so glad you could make it!" My mom stood up and caught almost everyone's attention in the small cafe called The Wedlock, god knows why a cafe as awesome has such a god awful name.
"Mother, please." I gritted as I did a walk of shame towards the table where she was, looking at me like I am some ray of hope in her over darkened life.
"Hija, I am so elated that you finally came. I was losing hope." She said, stretching her red lips into a rather hideous smile. Her dress was definitely a Versace atelier. God.. why can't see dress normally for once?
I wanted to berate her for her extravagant dressing style but decided otherwise. What would be the use anyway?
"You sounded frantic, what's the matter?" I was regretting my decision of coming here, but my impulse and gut had already done their work and regretting was of no use anymore.
She leaned forward a bit which instinctively made me lean back into my chair, "I found a hint!" Her whisper was full of excitement, but it only puzzled me.
"Hint?" I was puzzled, what hint?
"Yes!" She looked really hyped but her years of being a Villarreal were definitely paying off as she still managed to look pretty composed on the outside, at least to the outsiders, who thankfully, were now minding their own business.
"I am sorry but I don't think I am following you here.." I was thoroughly confused and at the back of my mind was sure of some trouble brewing.
"Hint, hija, hint about your father's last testament!" She grinned and my eyes only managed to widen.
"So..you have the key to that safe or something?" I asked, trying to not give away the fact that her news had knocked the air out of me.
She was grim for a moment before she chirped up again, "No, but a possible clue to the key. I searched extensively, every nook and corner of the penthouse because your father obviously spent a lot of his time here, and I found a letter."
It was true, father always liked New York for some reason, the diverse culture probably, and spent a helluva of his time here for business and recreational purposes. The said penthouse was his abode for whenever he was in the city.
"What does the letter say?" I asked, suddenly intrigued. Not such a bad decision coming here, after all.
"Some bull crap about how he loved all of us." She gave me a bored look, which very quickly scandalized me but I decided to be patient.
"Well must be some hell of a bull crap." I commented, just to fill in the silence we have fell into.
"2 pages worth a emotional rambling, but it was all very cryptic. I don't think anything written was worth serious attention but the last few lines had me intrigued." She said and she probably sensed my interest too, and waited for a response. Typical, mother.
She wanted a reaction, I won't give her mine.
"Father never did cryptic." I said in a monotone. She frowned, my reaction was not being up to her expectations.
"Certainly, but he did, must be trying to be experimental for the one last time." She shrugged, just when the waitress I've come to recognize as Lora, came with two cups of something.
"Thanks." I nodded with a smile when I realized my mother pretty much dismissed her without even sparing a glance at her.
"I ordered for you too." My mother smiled, probably giving her self a pat on the back mentally for such goodness of hers.
