                                                                        Chapter 1

Kennet breathed a sigh of relief as the bell rang.  She stood up and stretched her wings before picking up her bag and walking out of the classroom.  She fluttered up to her locker.  They were placed above the classrooms to save space.  She opened her locker and placed her english binder inside.

She heard a flutter and looked behind her to see her best friend hovering there.  Jade was texting and chewing her gum impatiently.  Kennet. slung her big over her shoulder and started towards the door.  Jade followed, still texting.

"You forgot to shut your locker." Jade said without looking up from her phone.

"Whatever." Kennet replied as she flicked her wrist behind her.  She heard a locker slam shut behind her.  The two girls giggled and flew outside.

They flew towards a bench and sat down.  Kennet just sat in silence while Jade studied her thoughtfully.

"WHAT!  Your parents are taking us to Iiawah for spryng break!  That's awesome." Jade said excitedly.

Kennet smiled.  Everyone on Illaria had a special gift. Only two people on the entire planet had the same power and those two people were soulmates. When a baby is born on Illaria, a necklace materializes around their neck.  The soulmate wears a matching one and the closer they get to their soulmate the necklace gets warmer and brighter.  These necklaces have become known as the Chains of Destiny.  Every Illarian dreams of the day they find their soulmate.

Kennet was telekenetic and Jade could read minds.

"Hey, let's go to the mall and get some new bathing suits." Jade said.

"Okay, but I have to be home before eight 'cause that's when we are going to leave." Kennet replied.

They flew towards the mall.  They grabbed some milkshakes from the food court and then they went to their favorite beach store.

Kennet picked out a turquoise bikini and Jade picked out a dark green one.  They headed toward the dressing room to try them on.

Kennet changed into the bikini and admired her tan, slim body in the mirror.  She had long legs and big feet.  Her flat stomach was the envy of many girls in her school.  She had bright blue eyes framed by long lashes.  Her long chestnut hair tumbled down her back and stopped just below her wings.  Her wings were long for her height with beautiful swirls in the tips.  Wings are like fingertips, nobody has the same wingprint , except for soulmates.  She stepped out to show Jade her bikini.

Jade was a bit taller than Kennet and just a little more pale.  She had long dark blonde hair with bleach blonde highlights that stopped at her shoulders.  Her emerald green eyes stood out with the dark green cloth of the bathing suit.  Jade's wings were perfect for her height and age with little snowflakes spreading across and getting sparser towards the tips.  Kennet's eyes wandered to Jade's necklace which was silver and gold wires entwined in the shape of a heart with a little heart shaped ruby in the center held in place by three red cords.

Kennet looked down and studied her own necklace.  It was a little more elaborate than Jade's.  It was a heart shaped out of little gold and silver leaves with a sapphire in the center held in place by three blue cords.  Kennet had studied other peoples' necklaces and the only ones she'd seen with jewels in the center were hers and Jade's.  She shrugged and went back into her stall to change.

When they were back into their own clothes they took the bathing suits to the checkout.  Once they bought the bathing suits, Kennet looked at her phone and checked the time.

"Holy crap!  It's already seven and we still need to get your stuff packed." Kennet said worriedly, grabbing Jade's arm and dragging her through the mall.

"Hold on, gosh girl.  I texted my aunt earlier about it and she said she already had my stuff packed for it ever since your parents told her about it." Jade said.

"I love your aunt." Kennet said with relief.  "Now let's go so my parents don't leave without us."

Jade smiled and they fluttered out of the mall towards Jade's house.  When they got there, Jade's aunt was standing in the doorway with two suitcases.  Jade gave her aunt a hug with promises to text every night and to be careful.  Kennet lifted the suitcases with her mind and locked on so they would follow the girls to Kennet's house. The two girls arrived with two minutes to spare.

"Okay, let's put your stuff in the center and then go." Kendra, Kennet's mom, said.  Kennet smiled.  Her parents could teleport so it was easy to go on a big trip like this one.  They each grabbed hands and formed a circle around the luggage.

"One, two, three." there was bright flash then the house was empty.
