Chapter 12
Kennet lowered her head under her husband's gaze. She felt anger rolling off of him in waves.
"You're pregnant and you didn't tell me!" he shouted.
"I just found out last night but I had my suspicions." She lowered her head even more.
"WHAT THE HECK WERE YOU THINKING!" he shouted and he whole house vibrated.
"I don't know." she spoke like a kid getting talked down to. "I just didn't want you to worry."
"Well it looks like your efforts were wasted." he started pacing the room.
"I'm sorry, Meg didn't want me to tell you." Kennet pleaded.
"And she is not happy that you did." the door slammed open and a very ticked off Meg walked in. "You, sit." she pointed to Keith and then pointed to the spot on the bed next to Kennet. He turned and sat in the chair in the corner. "No, next to your wife." He got up and sat next to Kennet, not touching her. She was hurt that he didn't even want to touch her. "She did what I told her too. It will make things complicated if you know about the tiny Illarian currently growing in her body. And, what makes matters worse is that you are choosing not to even touch your wife and need I remind you that it is your fault that there is a tiny winged creature growing inside her. Apologize, now." Kennet had never seen Meg so angry, not even when Kyle had given her a cut on her arm with his sword.
Keith lifted her chin so she looked into his eyes. "Kennet, I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking." He kissed her lightly.
"Congratulations, the first step is admitting that you are wrong, but if you think about it, it's actually the easiest. I'm sorry but I have to erase the memory of the baby from Keith's brain." They barely had time to register her words before she started chanting. A purple smoke wrapped around Keith's head. It turned green and then dissipated. Keith fainted. Kennet screamed and rushed to his side. He woke up a few moments later.
"Why am I on the floor?" he asked.
"Well, we don't really know for sure. We just walked in here and found you there." Meg replied before Kennet could speak.
"Oh, I'm sorry I worried you." he had a confused look on his face.
Kennet excused herself and ran out of the room. Keith followed but stopped when Meg put a hand on his arm and shook her head. She ran outside and just started flying wherever. She found herself sitting on a park bench. She had tears pouring down her face and they wouldn't stop.
Kennet opened her eyes and blinked at the sudden brightness. She sat up and winced at how sore her back was. She took in her surroundings. She was laying on a park bench in the midst of a scenic park. There were green trees that were just starting to change colors even though it was still warm out. There was a blanket draped over her and she was puzzled. She was confused as to how she had ended up sleeping on a park bench. Then the memories came rushing in. A silent tear slid down her cheek. She bunched up the blanket and started the long walk home. Her wings had been scrunched up on the bench and had no feeling. She also was in no rush to get home. She walked out of the park and down the road that led into town, unaware of the eyes that followed her.
She sat at a small table in a small coffee shop. She said a soft, "Thank you." when a mug full of steaming brown coffee was set in front of her. Her stomach growled and she eyed the breakfast buffet. She walked over to the buffet and picked up a plate. She filled it three times before she was satisfied. Once she was finished, she continued walking home.
