Chapter 6
Kennet woke up with light streaming in her window. She looked up at the man beside her. Tonight, he would be her husband and she smiled at the thought.
"Well someone is certainly happy." Keith said, tucking her hair behind her ear.
"I was just thinking about how tonight you'll be my husband." they smiled. Nothing could bring them down.
Later that afternoon, Kennet sat while Jade applied some mascara and eyeliner. Then she put some lip gloss on Kennet. She stood back and admired her handiwork.
"Perfect, now do the same for me." Jade sat down in the chair while Kennet did her makeup. Then they each sat in a chair while a hairstylist put their hair in matching updos. When they were done they put their dresses on and sat while the stylists put the hairpieces in. The two girls were shaking with anticipation.
A few minutes later, they were walking down the stairs to the golf cart that would take them to their corncrib in the barn. That was where they would wait to walk down the aisle.
The flower girl left to go down the aisle. Then the two maids of honor walked down. Then it was their turn. Kennet linked her arm with Jade's and held on to her bouquet. They walked out from behind the barn and heard the guests gasp. She looked at Keith as she walked.
You look gorgeous, love. She heard Keith's voice in her mind and smiled.
When they reached the grooms, they handed their bouquets off to their maids of honor and grasped their grooms' hands.
Keith gave her a reassuring squeeze. They had a standard ceremony and decided to write their own vows. Kennet started.
"Keith, as soon as I saw you I couldn't take my eyes away. I don't know if it was that I knew you were mine or that you had washboard abs or both. It was probably both." The audience laughed. "When I saw we had matching chains, I wanted to run into your arms right there and hold you tight." Kennet started crying. "I know I haven't known you long, but I love you and I don't want to live a life without you."
"Kennet, when my parents died, I didn't know if I wanted to live. I rebelled and I am not proud of what I did. I even had thoughts of killing myself. Right now,I'm glad that I didn't."
Kennet could hardly pay attention through the rest of the ceremony because all she could remember was Keith's words.
"I now pronounce you men and wives. Men, you may kiss your brides." the pastor concluded the ceremony.
Keith leaned forward and pressed his lips to hers as everyone cheered. He pulled away and she took her bouquet and they ran down the aisle with huge smiles on their faces.
The rest of the night was a blur to Kennet. She couldn't remember a time she had been happier.
