Chapter 9
Kennet slid under the sheets wincing at the pain it caused. It had been a week since Meg had appeared in their kitchen. After a day of sword fighting, Meg had put them through six days of conditioning. Kennet was really sore and it didn't make matters any better that she was keeping a secret from Keith even though it was a matter of time before he found out. Her only consolation was that Jade was keeping the same secret from Kyle.
She looked over at Keith and he smiled at her. He ran his hand down her arm and she winced as he hit a bruise from when she got hit in the arm with a wooden sword.
"What's wrong?" he looked at her with concern in his eyes.
"Nothing, I'm just really sore."
"Hon, are you not telling me something?"
"No, why would I need to keep something from you?"
"'Cause Kyle told me that your and Jade's thoughts have mostly been, I hope he doesn't find out. Anything you want to tell me?" he tucked a piece of stray hair behind her ears.
"I just don't want you to worry. I'll tell you soon, okay, I promise." she kissed him softly.
"That's going to have to be good enough. Goodnight." he switched off his lamp and wrapped his arms around her. She laid her head on his chest and they fell asleep.
Kennet woke up and panicked when Keith wasn't next to her. She relaxed when she heard his voice out in the kitchen. She got up and wandered into the kitchen.
"Good morning, sleeping beauty." Keith said with a smile and gave her a kiss on the cheek. She shuffled over to the fridge and poured herself a glass of chocolate milk. She grabbed a blueberry muffin and started stuffing it in her mouth.
"Whoa, slow down girl." Kyle said in disgust.
Jade appeared in the basement doorway with a tired look on her face. Kennet stifled a laugh and nearly choked on her muffin. When she was done with her muffin, she walked over to the fridge and took out the pickles.
"Oh, give me one of those." Jade said walking over to Kennet. They each took out a pickle and stood there crunching on them while their husbands just stared.
"Are you two okay?" Kyle asked.
"Oh yeah, just peachy." Kennet said sarcastically, giving Kyle a thumbs up.
"Okay well, we were talking to Meg, and found out that your birthdays that the orphanage gave you were incorrect. Your birthday is actually March 18. Not July 22, Kennet, or June 4, Jade." Keith said.
Kennet almost choked on her pickle. "That means, we're 17."
"Oh my gosh." Jade said.
"Okay, people!" Meg walked into the room with a leather jumpsuit just like the one in Kennet's closet on. "Today, will be magic lessons because I know you're all a little sore from the conditioning this week."
Her statement was followed by grumbles of "a little" and "you think".
"Anyway, we will still be working in the same clearing in the woods. So go get changed and meet me there." There was a puff of smoke and she disappeared.
Kennet walked back into the bedroom and put on a pair of spandex. She put a tight, black tanktop on then took the leather outfit out of her closet. She undid the zipper that was in the front and slid her legs into it. She put her arms in the sleeves then zipped up the zipper that went down to her belly button. The jumpsuit immediately tightened and conformed to her body. She felt a searing pain on the inside of her right wrist. She let out a scream and collapsed. Keith was immediately by her side as she rolled around on the floor from pain. He picked her up and set her in his lap. The pain slowly began to ebb and soon it was just a dull throb in her wrist. Keith laid her down on the bed and he pulled his outfit out of the closet. He slid the black jeans on and then pulled the t-shirt over his head. He slid the jacket on. After a few moments, he grabbed his wrist and sunk down to his knees. Kennet could tell he was in pain. She got off the bed and went over to him and kissed him. She wanted to distract him from the pain. He slowly gave in to her kiss and she felt him relax. She pulled away and walked over to the closet. She picked up both pairs of combat boots and went back over to Keith. He slid his onto his feet and watched as they buckled themselves. Kennet put her on and they too buckled themselves.
Kennet went into the bathroom and swept her hair into a french braid. When she walked back into the bedroom, Keith pulled her into an embrace. He kissed the top of her head.
"Did you know that Meg knows what she's doing?" he whispered into her ear.
"What do you mean?" Kennet was confused.
"She knows what will make you look hot."
"I knew you would like it."
"Did you notice the blue stripe down the sides?"
Kennet felt his hands run down her sides and she shivered at his touch. She looked at her sides and saw a royal blue stripe in the black leather. The leather spysuit accentuated all of her curves and the black combat boots went great with it. She picked the sunglasses up off the bed and put them on. She made a finger gun and shot at an imaginary target. Then she put it up to her mouth and blew across it.
Keith chuckled and kissed her. She picked up his glasses and handed them to him. He put them on and they walked out into the kitchen. They watched Jade and Kyle take off through the window. Keith and Kennet wakes outside and followed.
