Kennet sat up in her bed. She was breathing heavily and a thin sheen of sweat covered her skin. Her dreams for the past two months had consisted of what happened to Keith and her begin chased through the woods by the wrinkly black thing. Suddenly she remembered Keith was coming home from the hospital that day. She hadn't had time to see him because Meg had been pressuring them in their training. She hadn't seen him in two months and in that two months her stomach had swelled. She still had three months until the baby was born.
She sighed and ran a hand through her tangled hair. Meg had given them the day off because of Keith. She got out of bed and walked into her bathroom. She turned the shower on and stripped her clothes. She closed her eyes as the warm water cascaded down her back.
When she was done, she wrapped a towel around her body and twisted one around her hair. She walked into her bedroom to her closet. She pulled out her blue sweatpants and a black sweatshirt. She put them on then went out into the kitchen and poured her cereal. She sat at the counter alone and ate since Jade and Kyle had already left to get that week's groceries. Meg said that Kennet now had her permission to tell Keith about the baby. He was going to ask about her swelling belly, might as well tell him.
When she was finished, she put her dishes in the sink and left to go to the hospital. She landed on the sidewalk outside the hospital doors. She walked in and the lady at the front desk sighed.
"Only family may visit." she said in a robotic voice.
"I'm Keith Jaranet's wife. I've been here before." Kennet said.
"Go ahead." the lady sighed again.
Kennet took the elevator up to Keith's floor. She found his room and put her hand on the handle. She took a deep breath and pushed open the door. Keith was sleeping in the hospital bed and he was so peaceful. Kennet smiled and walked over to him. She planted a light kiss on his forehead before sitting next to him on the bed. His eyes shot open and when he saw her he sat up and pressed himself against the wall. Panic filled his eyes.
Kennet stood up and held her hands out in front of her. She starts walking towards him slowly.
"Keith, it's me, Kennet. You're coming home from the hospital today. I came to take you home." she spoke softly. Recognition filled his eyes and he relaxed.
"Kennet, how much food have you been eating?" he asked, staring at her stomach. She smiled and sat in front of him on the bed. She took his hands in hers and looked into his eyes.
"You're going to be a father." his eyes widened in surprise. He looked at her stomach then back up at her face.
"You mean." he said.
"Yeah." he stood up and pulled her up with him. He put his hand on her waist and spun her around in the air. When he set her down, he captured her lips in a kiss. When he separated, joy sparkled in his eyes. She led him out of the room and down the hall to the elevator. When they stepped into the lobby, Meg was standing at the front desk arguing with the lady. She turned and looked at them. Kennet smiled and walked over to the front desk and checked Keith out. They walked out the double doors and Kennet and Keith picked Meg up and flew towards a restaurant down the road.
Once they had all slid into the booth, a male waiter came up to their table.
"Hi, I'm Greg and I'll be your server today. Can I start you off with something to drink?" he said with a smile. He had blonde hair that fell over his blue eyes, which he couldn't take off of Meg. The most bizarre thing about him was that he only had one wing and it was only half a wing. Kennet and Keith ordered their drinks. When it was Meg's turn she just stared at Greg. Kennet ordered her a water and Greg left.
"What the heck, Meg!" Kennet whispered loudly.
"When I joined the warriors, Your mother made it possible to have a soulmate. She said it would be someone who couldn't fly. Greg is my soulmate. Did you see his necklace?" Meg pulled a necklace out of her shirt. It was a locket and when she opened it, there was a pearl inside. Greg brought their drinks. When he bent over to place their drinks in front of them, his necklace hung down. It was the exact same as Meg's. He took their orders and left again, with Meg burning a hole in the back of his head.
"Whoa, Meg, if you stare any harder, you might actually create a hole in his head." Kennet said with a giggle.
Meg rolled her eyes. She looked up in surprise as Greg walked back up to their table with a basket of rolls in his hand. Kennet noticed he was breathing heavily.
"Ah, we didn't order rolls." Keith pointed out.
"I know. I needed an excuse to come back out here." Greg said mischievously.
Meg swallowed. "Why did you need to come back out here?" she said.
"So I could do this." Greg leaned forward quickly and pressed his lips to Meg's. She kissed him back but they soon separated when an old man yelled at them about PDA. Greg smiled and Meg just looked at him in shock. She was still staring as he sauntered away in the direction of the kitchen. Kennet smirked at Meg but she didn't notice.
When Greg brought the food out, Meg still had the same look on her face. Instead of going back to the kitchen, Greg slid into the booth with Meg. They talked and ate for awhile until they had all finished their meals. When they were done, Greg walked out with them.
"Don't you have to finish your dinner shift?" Meg asked.
"No, I was just helping out for tonight because they were short on staff." Greg said as they walked into the crisp night air. Kennet pulled her coat tighter to block out the chilly air. Keith noticed and slung his arm around her shoulder.
"So, I'm guessing you two are a couple." Greg said and he wrapped his arm around Meg's waist. Kennet rolled her eyes. Men can be so protective.
"Yeah we just got married in the spryng." Keith said.
"Married! I thought you two were teenagers."
"Oh, we are but certain circumstances came up. Meg can explain it all to you later."
"I see you are going to be expanding that little family of yours." Greg nodded towards Kennet's belly. She proudly smiled and nodded while Keith squeezed her shoulder.
"Oh." Kennet stopped walking.
"What, what is it?" Keith had a worried look on his face.
"The baby kicked."
"Where?" Keith asked eagerly.
Kennet moved his hand to the spot where she felt the kick. Keith's face lit up when he felt it. He wrapped her in a hug and the continued walking.
"Do you know if it's a boy or a girl?" Greg asked.
"We find out next month." Kennet said.
"I can only hope to have a little boy someday." Greg looked at Meg and she blushed.
Kennet rubbed her eyes and blinked. "Do my eyes deceive me or is Meg actually blushing."
"Shut up."
Kennet smiled. She lifted herself off the ground a few feet only to fall forward. She stood up confused and tried again but fell again.
"What the heck. I could fly this morning, I flew to the hospital." Kennet was confused.
"Your belly weight must have changed since then." Keith said. They walked the rest of the way home in silence. Greg decided to crash on their couch and Meg went up to her room. Kennet and Keith went into their bedroom. Kennet changed into a large T-shirt. She slipped under the covers and laid her head on the pillow. She felt Keith lay down behind her. He wrapped his arms around her belly and pulled her backwards toward him. Her back hit his chest and he pulled her close. She flipped so she was facing him and curled up as small as she could against his chest. She fell asleep with him holding her and it was the happiest she had been in a long time.
