I smiled as Harley stumbled across the floor on wobbly legs. She was getting really active. Her second birthday was coming up and we've only had three encounters with spidats. All of which were killed. Tomorrow, Meg was getting married to Greg. Our life was happy. Harley had already shown signs of her gift. She had an uncanny knack for getting herself into small places. I have concurred that she can change her body's density. Caleb seemed to always be building things. Once, he built a working microwave out of toy building blocks.
"There's my baby girl." Keith came out and lifted her into the air.
"Keith, be careful." I warned him. Her little wings fluttered whenever she got too excited and I was scared that she would start flying and fall. Her chubby cheeks vibrated as Keith gave her kisses. He planted one on my lips and handed her to me.
"Poop check." he said.
"Oh no, you did not just name me the poop checker." I gave him the you-better-choose-your-next-words-carefully,-your-life-depends-on-it look.
"No, I did not." he took Harley in the other room and changed her diaper.
"That's what I thought." I murmured as I went into the other room to change into my training clothes. When I came out, Keith was holding the stinky diaper directly in front of him, his arm was straight out and there was a clothespin on his nose. I chuckled and went outside into the warm air. I flew up and twirled in the air. I dived down and skimmed the water of the pond, smiling as it sprayed up in my face. I flew up and perched on the top branch of a tree. A bird fluttered by me and I closed my eye and fell backwards from the tree. Just before I hit the ground, I pulled up. I hovered in the air before shooting full speed across the field towards the woods. The sharp wind made my eyes water. I weaved in and out of trees before I reached the clearing. I spun in circles around the edge and they got smaller as I reached the middle. I flew up a few feet and let myself drop. Today I was doing a weapons assessment to see if I can quickly use all weapons in battle. I picked up my sword in its scabbard and fastened the leather strap around my waist. I wrapped a quiver full of arrows around my chest and put a bow on my back. A small knife slid into a special pocket by my wrist for easy reach. Another went on my left wrist. Throwing knives lined the inside of my leather suit. My bonding rings hung on a chain around my neck so they were closer to my body.
I started with sword practice. I fought a hologram and ended up winning. Bow practice was next. I stood away from a straw dummy. A buzzer went off in my head and I whipped the bow from my back. I quickly nocked three arrows and fired. Two hit the space where the heart is and one hit the throat. I put my bow on my back and unzipped the top of the leather. One at a time, I threw them at the target. When I was satisfied, I gathered them up and put them back in my suit. Knife fighting was next. When I was satisfied with all of my results, I put my weapons and flew back to the house.
I had just gotten out of the shower when my phone buzzed. I saw a text that said to meet Jade and Meg at the bridal boutique to pick out bridesmaid dresses. I quickly dressed and hurried out the door after telling Keith where I was going.
I stepped into the bridesmaid section and immediately saw Jade admiring a green dress. Meg shook her head and pointed towards the purple section. I let out a groan. Purple is not my color. I picked out a strapless short hi-low dress with a flower accent on the waist. Jade picked out a one shoulder empire waist with a flower accent on the shoulder. I tried the one I picked out on and Jade tried hers on and Meg stared at us thoughtfully. They both were a deep purple.
"Got it." she snapped her fingers. "Both. They both match. Let's have some variety." She smiled and we changed back into our clothes. We purchased the dress and headed home. The wedding and reception spaces were already set up in the barn. I spent the rest of the day with my family.
The next day, Meg was standing at the alter saying her vows. Jade and I stood near her in our bridesmaid dresses. The reception was fun. My family was glad to meet Meg. She didn't have any family so we asked our family o support her. Meg and Greg's one year old son (she's not exactly innocent) was adorable. He just so happens to be Harley's soulmate. His twin sister is Caleb's. The universe had a weird sense of humor.
