Chapter 2
Kennet woke to the smell of tropical flowers. She sat up and rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. She took in her surroundings in the morning light.
Her and Jade's hotel room had a flowery theme to it. There were sweet smelling flowers everywhere. There were two wooden chests at the end of each bed. Carved into the top of the chests, were more flowers. Kennet got up from the soft linen sheets and wondered into the bathroom. She was immediately plunged undo the ocean. The bathroom was decorated in an under the sea theme. She immediately thought of the Under the Sea song from The Little Mermaid. She smiled.
"Wow this place is off the hook." Kennet heard from the other room.
"Totally, let's go to the beach today." Kennet said as she walked back into the bedroom.
"Oh my gosh! Look at your necklace!" Jade yelled.
She suddenly realized it was warmer than it usually was. The ruby was glowing a bright pinkish color and the silver leaves were glowing white. She looked at Jade's to see it was glowing as bright as hers.
"Yours too!" Kennet shouted.
"We could find our soulmates here!" Jade said excitedly.
The two girls did a happy dance but abruptly stopped when Kendra and Steve walked in.
"What are you two so happy about?" Kendra asked.
"Nothing." Jade and Kennet said at the same time.
"Okay then. Since you are 16 now we figured you would want to have the week to yourselves. So you will be able to do what you on one condition: we have to know where you are at all times. Have your phones with you."
"Thank you, Mom and Dad. We were planning on going to the beach today." Kennet said.
"That's fine as long as you tell us if you decide to go anywhere else." Kendra said. "Bye, we'll see y'all later." Then they left.
Kennet got her swimsuit and coverup and went into the bathroom to change. She came out and started packing her beach stuff while Jade changed. When she was done they grabbed their stuff and headed down to the hotel cafeteria. They talked and ate some cinnamon rolls. When they were done they grabbed two water bottles and a few sandwiches then left and headed for the beach. They found a nice spot on the beach and laid out their towels.
"You want to tan then swim later?" Jade asked Kennet.
"Yeah, sounds great." Kennet answered.
They laid down on their towels and let their skin soak in the sun. Kennet daydreamed about the day she would meet her soulmate. The day she would here his voice in her mind. When an Illarian first touches their soulmate, a bond is created between the minds and they are able to talk to each other through their thoughts.
Her daydreaming was interrupted by a poke in her side. She sat up as Jade pointed past her.
Keith scanned the beach, looking for a nice place to lay their towels out. His necklace was warm against his tan chest. He saw two girls tanning in the sun. One of them had brown hair and the other had black hair. He shook his head and tried to find a spot but his eyes kept wandering back to the brown haired beauty.
Kennet, a voice whispered in his mind.
"Hey, Kyle, over there." he said, as he pointed to the two girls. They started over the hot sand.
Kennet looked up as two young men laid their towels out next to theirs and sat down. Both were very well built. One had black hair and the other had dark brown hair. She looked away but her eyes wandered back to the handsome boy with the black hair.
Keith, a voice whispered in her mind.
She turned toward Jade, "Keith." she whispered.
"Kyle." Jade whispered.
She turned back around and her eyes met two beautiful chocolate brown eyes. She quickly looked away. She looked back at him out of the corner of her eye. Her breath caught in her throat when she caught sight of his necklace. It matched hers exactly.
She looked at Jade with tears of joy in her eyes. "It's him." she whispered. Jade nodded and Kennet knew that they had both just found their soulmates.
Keith stood up and turned towards the girls. "Hi, I'm Keith." he said as he stuck out his hand.
Kennet stood up. "I'm Kennet and this is Jade." she motioned to Jade and then Jade did a little wave. Kennet grasped Keith's hand and he yanked on her arm and pulled her close.
"I'm so glad I finally found you." he whispered. She rested her head on his chest.
Jade cleared her throat and the two quickly separated. Jade's smug look was caught off as Kyle caught her in a similar embrace Keith had Kennet in a moment ago. Kennet burst out laughing as Jade wiggled out of Kyle's embrace and pinned him with "the look".
Her laughter was replaced by a squeal as Keith picked her up and flew over the water. Kennet clutched onto his neck. He tried to drop her in but she held on to the back of his neck and dragged him in with her. Kennet scrambled to her feet. The water was up to her chest and her wings were soaked. She watched as Keith stood up unsteadily and she took advantage. She jumped as high as she could using her wings to gain height and landed in his back and they both tumbled back under the water. Kennet was on her feet first doing a victory dance.
She looked back at the beach to see Kyle carrying an indignant Jade towards them. She had her arms crossed and an evil look in her eye. When he reached them he dropped her into the water and Kennet laughed at the look of complete surprise flashed across her face.
"Okay, you had your fun now help me up." Jade said as she reached up. When Kyle had a firm grasp, she yanked down and he tumbled into the water. She stood with a smirk on her face when she suddenly disappeared under the water. Kyle came up and she surfaced soon after.
"Not cool, Kyle." Jade said. " There is revenge in your future." Kennet felt sorry for Kyle. He didn't yet know that Jade could be a little revenge happy.
Suddenly, Kennet had a great idea. "Chickenfight!" she shouted earning her a weird look from some people nearby. She shrugged her shoulders. She was used to it.
"Really?" Keith asked her with a weird look.
"What, can't a girl like to chickenfight?" Kennet asked, annoyed.
"Yeah but I just didn't expect it from you." he replied.
"Oh, you'll learn fast to expect just about anything from me." she said with smile.
"Ahem, I believe the girl called for a chickenfight." Jade said.
Kennet climbed on top of Keith's shoulders and Jade climbed on top of Kyle's. Keith stepped forward and so did Kyle.
The girls said in unison, "One, two, three, GO!"
