Chapter 10
Kennet collapsed on the ground. Mastering the element of water. Meg had said that they each had an element to master. Jade had plants, Kyle had earth, Keith had fire, and Kennet had water. She had exerted most of her energy already and they still had half a day of conditioning left.
"C'mon, on your feet, you pansies." Kennet slowly got to her feet.
"Girls, you can take off your leather." Meg handed them each a pair of athletic shorts. "Guys, here are some for you." She handed the guys each a pair.
Jade and Kennet went into one bushes to change. She slipped out of her leather spy suit and put the shorts on with her black tank top. She walked back out into the circle and found her husband with Meg in his arms. She calmly walked over to them telling herself that there was a perfect explanation. When he caught sight of her, Keith dropped Meg in the dirt which made Kennet smile but she quickly replaced it with a frown.
She tripped and fell so I picked her up. Kennet heard his voice in her mind.
Well, it looks like your efforts were wasted. She replied bitterly.
Trust me, I only have eyes for you.
I know.
He put his hand on the nape of her neck and kissed her softly. Jade walked over to Kyle and he told her what happened.
"Thanks for the help." Meg grumbled as she got up. She had put them through hours of conditioning. Finally, at dinnertime, she called quits. They went back to the house. Meg sent the guys to go get pizza for dinner.
Kennet went into her room and changed into Tweety bird pajama pants and a t-shirt that said I know what you're thinking, and yes, I am that awesome. She walked back out into the kitchen and Meg laughed when she saw the shirt.
"Keith is never gonna be bored with you as his wife, that's for sure." Meg told her from her spot in the doorway. Kennet smiled proudly and poured herself some water. She downed three glasses before the guys got home.
They walked into a strange scene. Kennet was chugging her fourth glass of water and Jade was yelling, "Chug, chug, chug!" They set the pizza down on the counter and got five paper plates out. Kennet finished her water and started filling her plate with four pieces of pizza.
"Geez, chica, the rest of us gotta eat too." Jade said as Kennet stuffed her face with pizza. Keith sat down next to her. When she was done she threw her plate in the trash and took out a gallon of strawberry ice cream. She got a spoon and walked into the bedroom. Keith finished eating and threw his plate in the trash. He grabbed a spoon and walked through the door his lovely wife had disappeared through earlier.
She was leaning against the headboard watching her favorite movie, Battleship. He laid on the bed beside her and started eating her ice cream with her. She didn't protest and he just shrugged his shoulders and watched the movie with her.
Later, she laid her head on his chest as he wrapped his arms around her. He switched off his lamp and they laid there in the darkness. A couple moments later, he felt something wet land on his bare chest. He turned his lamp on and looked at Kennet's tear-streaked face.
"Hon, why are you crying?"
"I don't know, I'm just stressed. There are so many things on my plate right now and this headache and stomachache aren't helping."
"It's going to be fine. The stomachache is probably from all the food you ate."
"I think I'm going to hurl."
"What?"
His question was answered as she ran into the bathroom. He followed and found her hunched over the toilet. He grabbed her hair and held it behind her back. When she finished she rinsed her mouth out with water. Keith went into the kitchen and got her some pain reliever. She took it and stood in front of the sink.
"At you okay?" he asked her.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I need to go ask Meg something. You go back to bed. I'll be right back." she gave him a kiss and disappeared in the other room. He shrugged his shoulders and climbed back in bed.
Once Kennet was sure Keith had gone to bed, she flew up to the loft, which was Meg's room. Kennet shook Meg and she stirred but didn't wake up. Kennet went into the bathroom up there and filled a small paper cup with water. She walked back out and dumped it on Meg's face. She woke up immediately. She sat up and dried her face off with her blanket before switching on the lamp. They both blinked at the sudden brightness.
"Kennet? It's midnight. This had better be good. I don't like my beauty sleep interrupted. I know it's more sleep than beauty but it doesn't change the concept." Meg told her.
Kennet told her what happened and how she had been feeling lately and how Jade had been the same. Meg sent her to get Jade.
Kennet went into the basement and walked up to Jade and Kyle's bedroom door. She winced as it creaked open. She walked up to the bed and whispered into Jade's ear, "Jade wake up. Meg wants to see you." Jade stirred and woke up when Kennet poked her in the side.
"What do you want?" Jade complained.
"Sshh, Meg wants to see us in the loft." Kennet whispered before flying into the hallway. Jade slipped out of Kyle's grip and followed Kennet up to Meg's room.
Meg thought about the symptoms the two women had been having. She found a spell that would tell her what was wrong with them. They waited patiently as a purple cloud of smoke puffed in front of each one of them. She double checked with the same results. She told them what it meant and sent them back to bed, pondering if it would mess up their fighting skills.
Kennet tossed back and forth in bed. All she could think about as what Meg had told her. She had had her suspicions but she had denied them.
Jade lay awake in her bed. All she could think about was what Meg had just said.
