Years Later

"Mom, when is dad coming back?" My youngest daughter, Brianna asked me, as she curled back into my side. To be honest, I didn't know when my husband would be back.

"I don't know, soon, okay?" I told her, my voice filling with sadness.

During college, I made some stupid mistakes and grew distant from my family. After the huge fight, I moved to New York with my first husband, Will.

After ten years, we had gotten into a horrible car crash, leaving everyone expect him alive. I miss him more and more everyday. My family had all came and that was really the last time I had seen most of them before I grew depressed.

My oldest daughter, Mackenzie, was eight at the time, and took it the hardest. My oldest son, Raymond, was five and his brother, Oliver, was three, and were both still in shock.

After that, it took a long time, but I moved on and married my second husband, Finn, two years later and had my five year old daughter, Brianna after that.

Not to sugarcoat it, but Finn was a drunk, who got angry when he drank too much. And by angry, I mean very angry ad threw things and cursed.

Sure, he was a good husband, but he needed help.

We had put him in rehab, and Brianna missed him so much out of all of us. Mackenzie or Mack as I called her, was now fifteen, and was very close with her brothers, Ray, who is twelve and Oli, who is now ten.

Her and Bria, due to the age gap, weren't really close, but they all loved each-other.

"Hey mom?" My three other kids asked, sitting down on the couch.

"Yeah, what is it?" I asked them, as Ray handed me a photograph.

"Who are they?" He asked, as I looked it over. The picture had been taken years ago, when my birth parents were still alive. I was around six, and Jackie was about, two? This was taken at the beach, the four of us smiling and laughing.

Tears escaped my eyes as Oli wiped them away.

"Don't cry mama." He said, as I pulled all of them into a hug.

Once that was over, I looked at them as I took a deep breath.

"These, were my parents and your Aunt Jackie, remember her?" I asked and only Mack and Ray nodded, but the other two shook their heads no.

"What happened to them mom?" Mack asked.

"It all started when-" I spoke, explaining everything, leaving out the gory parts.

It had been a long journey indeed.
