Kiyomi watches a lot of anime and reads a lot of light novels. Even more than Akemi(light novels, that is). And because she does, she encounters so many clichés that irritate her it's almost amazing.
But the more vocal of the two (especially in writ...
This always pops in the Fanfiction genre. Especially those lovely Naruto ones. And anyone who has written or read one would know.
OVERPOWERED ORIGINAL CHARACTERS
Is it that hard not to do this? Like, the whole Mary Sue character is a whole other issue in itself (we'll be covering it later), but this is a large part of it.
I understand that some characters have awesome powers from a series you like. But you can't make your OC so overpowered they are basically the God of the New World.
But in all honesty, as soon as you do this, I no longer have interest in your story. Why? Because I like to see a character grow. Maybe stumble a bit, get beaten up and rise above the challenge. That's also something that draws me to mainstream shounen battle manga and anime; like Boku no Hero Academia, Naruto (Shippuden), Soul Eater and more.
I can write whatever I want! Your opinion is nothing to me!

♪I'm looking to heaven, I'm going to California♪
But when your character is at the top, has no problems defeating everyone else and is pretty much invinsible, that is when I stop reading. I couldn't care less if that character died.
The build up to stronger characters than your protagoist is pretty awesome, and gets the audience excited.
Just stop doing this. Unless you can execute it well, don't do it.
I don't care if your OC is interesting, innovative or funny. If they are the following:
Naruto series:
A Hokage, Kazekage, Tsuchikage, Mizukage, Otokage or Raikage without a proper reason.
Jinchuuriki of Kurama, Shukaku or any other tailed beast. Bonus points if they created a new tailed beast!
Naruto or Sasuke's random and unexplained (extra points if they're twins) sibling of some kind. Who is somehow a jinchuuriki, has the sharingan and can use the rasengan (I'm sad to say, I've seen this too many times).
Random love interest who makes a character of the series act entirely out of character.
The sole survivor of some bullshit, overpowered clan who can do some godly shit with their eyes.
Bleach:
An Espada. Enough said.
A new Captain who is the absolute strongest soul reaper in the series.
Random love interest who makes a character of the series act entirely out of character.
Stronger than Aizen but still works under him for no reason.
Fairy Tail:
Is a new member of Team Natsu for no reason. Makes Natsu look weak in comparison. Somehow saves the day all the time.
Is a dragon slayer. Plus one if they control more than one element.
Joins Team Natsu and makes Lucy/Lisanna look so weak she gets kicked out.
Random love interest who makes a character of the series act entirely out of character.
Natsu and Zeref's random and unexplained sibling of some kind. Who is somehow a dragon/god slayer, can speak/control dragons and can reason with both said siblings. (I am sad to say I've seen this 10+ times just on Wattpad. Fanfiction.net has it worse)
Bonus points if they are the queen/king of dragons- despite the fact Acnologia exists.
Stronger than Zeref. Makes Acnologia look weak. Saves the day all the time.
Takes S rank missions like they're easy. If I see this again, I might punch someone in the face.
And those are just the mainstream ones. They get worse and worse as you go down.
The point is...
Nobody wants to hear about your character. They're too strong for their own good. Just make a character who is interesting. If they are the strongest or something, give them substance. No one likes a power whore.
But, if you execute it well, I'll give you a medal.
