Blood.
The liquid that courses through your veins and keeps you alive. While it contains trace amounts of iron, it doesn't smell very strong until it is dried/festering.
So please stop making out that fresh blood smells like it's rotting, rusty or disgusting. It smells like metal, yes, but it isn't as strong as fanfiction and light novel writers make it out to be. I can tell you that.
You see, exaggeration or hyperbole isn't great all time. Sometimes it's hard to take seriously.
As soon as you stop this (unless you're using it for comedic purposes), the sooner people will take your writing seriously.
