I stared out into the water completely in my own world. All of my friends were here, It was the end of 8th grade beach party. I'm afraid of the water. Well, the beach. I try to hide it, by saying I have a cold, or I have swimmers ear, or I just wanna tan. Anything to stay out of the disgusting beach.
I noticed a boy, who looked about my age, I think he went to our school. I don't notice anyone other than my friends. I overheard him and his friends talking.
"C'mon man, we're gonna surf, let's go!" A tall boy said. Yes, I know he's a boy, all these people are 8th graders, well, 9th.
"Nah mate, I'm good. I need some colour for next year." He smiled, obviously falsely.
"Right, you do that bro." The boy said, and the group ran off with their surf boards.
He must be afraid of water, he's using my excuses. I think to my self.
I get up from my towel and walk over to him.
"Hi I'm Carmen. You're afraid of water too." I smile, not even questioning the fact.
"What? No, I want to tan. If you're gonna eaves drop, do it right." He smirks, trying to act cool.
"Don't pretend to be one of those dicks, I know you're not." I say, sitting on his towel, uninvited.
"Okay, since you think you know everything about me, I guess I don't need to tell you my name." He smiles.
"I'll guess." I say, squinting to the sun.
"Go at it." He laughs.
"Hmm... Zack?" I question, looking at his bag. I could only see a Za.
"Close, extremely close, what the fuc-fudge." He slips. I laugh at his cover up.
Aha! I smile. I moved his bag slightly with my foot. "Hmm... Zayn?"
"Okay, you're really wei-..You cheater! That's not fair. You looked at my bag." He said, looking away.
"Psshh... No. I didn't even see your bag." I lie. I look away so I could smile.
"You're such a liar, my bag with my name is facing at you. There's no way you didn't see it!" He looks like he's getting mad.
"Okay, so I did, what are you gonna do? Cry?" I laugh.
"No, I'm gonna do this." He smirked, I looked at him confused.
He stood up, went behind me, and picked me up.
"Put me down you freak!" I scream. He just ran to the ocean.
"No! Please, put me down!" I scream. He was going to throw me into the water.
Next thing I knew, I was in the water, thinking I was going to die. The smell of salt and fish filled my nose. I couldn't get out. I couldn't stand. I stayed terrified in the water.
"Carmen?!" Zayn yelled, as I pretended to pass out. I needed someone to get me out, and I am not one to yell "help". Plus, I wanted Zayn to come in the water.
"Dammit!" He yelled, rolling his eyes. He took off his shirt and dove into the water.
I laugh to myself, even though I was truly terrified.
He picked me up and sighed. "Light as a feather, gain some weight." I could just imagine him rolling his eyes, but my eyes were closed.
I open them once he puts me down on his blanket.
"My savior," I bat my eyelashes, but couldn't stop laughing.
"God I hate you." He rolls his eyes.
"I love you more." I winked, got up and went back to my towel.
"Wait!" Zayn yells. I turn around.
"Can I have your number?" He blushes.
