Ama POV

The next morning passed like a flash, I just couldn't wait to tell Hayden about cheer competition. Every conversation we've had, had a bit of cheer competition in it.

"Hayden!" I ran over to the table in the corner, "Cheer competition is this Friday!" He smiled a bit and signed, "Great! I guess you are trying out?" I nodded. I am just so excited! "Would you like to see the cheer tryouts?" I asked. "I think I can. Friday?" He signed. "Yes. Friday." "I dot think I have anything that day." I started jumping up and down like a little kid. Honestly, I forgot we were in school.

"Alright class! Do you know what time it is?" Me teacher asked while sorting papers. "Group projects!" Some of us cheered and some of us booed. "Here are you partners. You will come up when you here your name and take the paper I give you. It will have what your project is." The teacher started calling our names. I didn't mind who i got because this was geography. "Ama and Hayden."

Oh...okay....why am I so nervous?

I walked up to the teachers desk and took the paper out of my teachers hands.

Ama get a hold of your self! Why are you trembling? You don't tremble you tumble. Come on, woman!

"You and your partner may talk about your project." I didn't know if I should walk over there or him walk over here. I saw death glares at me from girls. Thankfully Hayden walked over here.
"What is our project about?" He signed. He grabbed the paper and read.

You two get France. Tell about the history and how it's developed over time. Bring a food dish or costume from France. If you want to get creative you can act out a skit. The project is due on the 26th.

That doesn't sound like that bad of a project.

"So what do you want to do?" He signed. "Poster board? Do you want to do a skit?" "I don't care." We planned until the class ended and we were off to the next class.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was Friday, and I had my tryouts. Hayden was coming and after that we were going over to his house for the project.
We got to the building and walked in. "Where is your family?" He signed. "My mom couldn't come because she is watching the kids and my siblings couldn't come because they didn't have the money for cheer. I invited you for moral support."
That was embarrassing....
He nodded and sat down.
There were quite a few girls there, but I was used to it. There's a lot of people that want to try out for cheer every year. We all got into a group, and we had to learn a routine. They based on how fast we learned the routine and how well we did. Each year I did better. Which made me so happy. I was good at memorizing and each cheer routine was so easy to learn.
The tryouts ended and Hayden and I decided to go to Sonic to get a slushy! We walked all the way to sonic in the hallway there I was talking about how nerve-racking it was. Each year it was nerve-racking, but I always made it through. "You did great! I don't think I could ever do that." Hayden signed it to me. We finally got there and ordered our slushies. "Do you want to stay here? Or do you want to go to your house?" I asked, "I am fine with whatever you want to do." "Let's get a head start on that project, shall we?" I extended my arm so he could link mine with his. He looked at me like I was crazy and I just dragged him out of his seat. I started laughing a bit because he was so uncomfortable with me.
We got to Hayden's house and I noticed it wasn't that far away from my house. His dad was in his office, and I noticed it was almost like my dad's.
Hayden ran upstairs to get something from his bedroom and signed he will be right back. "So how are you two getting along?" Hayden's dad asked, "I think we're getting along quite well. Although it's hard because he doesn't speak." He looked at me for a bit, "Hayden can speak."
He what?!?!?!
"Really?" I asked. "He can speak just as well as you. Why? Does he not talk to you?" "He said he couldn't speak. He always uses sign language." His father sighed. "I'm just glad he has a friend like you." Then he walked back into his office.
Hayden can speak?
I wanted to find out if he really could speak so I tried to scare him.
I waited at the bottom of the stairs and hid. He was an inch or two away and I popped out of my hiding space like a Jack n' the Box. He just jumped and looked at me. "What was that for?" He signed.
Ugh...not easily scared...I'll remember that....
We sat down in the living room and started planning.
The living room was very nice and clean. There were pictures hanging the walls and a big clock to tell the time. "I mean do you want to do a skit?" I asked. He shrugged his shoulders. He got up and went to get a poster board.
I got up and looked at the pictures. It was pictures of him and his family. It looked like he was an only child, but he looked the same. The thing I like about the pictures was he had on a full smile. I've never seen him fully smile before.
Hayden had to snap me out of my gaze because I was so mesmerized. That was the way he had to get my attention, snapping. Since he couldn't 'talk'. I took one last glance at the pictures and then I wondered....
Where is his mom?
"What do we want to put on the poster?" I asked. We worked on the project for an hour and we took a break.
Now is the time to know more about him.
"Can you talk?"
What the heck, Ama. That was a way to put it.
"No." He signed.
Why doesn't he want to tell me?
"Why do you want to know?" He signed. "Just so we could communicate better. You know?" "Why would I tell you I can't speak if I can?" He signed.
Boy...that's what your doing right now...
"I don't know." There was an awkward silence between us so he offered to get us drinks.
Why won't he tell me?!
He came back with drinks in his hand and handed one to me. "I wish you could speak." I randomly said. "Why?" He signed. "I don't know. Just so it could be easier to talk to you. I mean sign language is fine, but it would just be easier. You know?" He nodded in understanding.
Then I I couldn't hold it in anymore and I exploded. "Gosh darn it, Hayden! Why are you lying?" I shouted
What the actual heck, Ama. That came out way worse than you planned.
Hayden just looked at me. "Aren't you going to answer?" I asked more calmly. "No." He signed.
