Stupid Me

Ama POV

Hayden was talking about elvish and dwarfish when I remembered I still had food for Sarah!

"Hayden! We have to bring Sarah her food! Come on! Let's go! Oh my gosh I can't believe I forgot! We have to go!" He held my arm to steady and calm me down. "She'll be fine. Let's go." He grabbed a brown leather satchel and placed his new books in there.

We walked to the hospital with the groceries and I was thinking about if Sarah was in her operation.

He stopped outside of the hospital doors and gave me the rest of my groceries. "Tell Sarah I hope she feels better. Okay?"

"Where do you think you're going?!" I asked.

"I am just going to visit someone." He stated. "Sarah would like to see you, you know?" I said slightly annoyed by his attitude.

"I just...don't feel...comfortable." He said.

I rolled my eyes, "Fine. Whatever." I turned and walked to the elevator.

I walk through the hallway to the room 321. I knocked and pushed the door open. "There you are I was wondering where you had been! They just took Sarah to the operation room." Rachel said. Sitting next to her was Lucas bent over and Rachel was massaging his back.

"I have to go. I'll be back." I said and rushed out the door.

Where did Hayden go?

I thought of all the logical places he could be but he was no where.

Then it clicked.

He was at the cemetery.

I ran across roads and bridges and I made it to the cemetery where I was almost killed...what a tragedy.

I ran to the back of the cemetery where I was the big willow tree and a mini waterfall, and sure enough Hayden was sitting by the water, reading his book.

"There you are!" I exclaimed. He looked up and rolled his sleeves down.

"Why are you here?" He asked.
"I was wanting to ask you some questions, but let me catch my breath."

"What do you need to know?" "About you! Why you're uncomfortable around hospitals! Why you always have that darn jacket on! Why you never talk in front of people! Why you never fully smile! Why you are so kept to your self! You're full of secrets and I want to help. I can tell something is off, but you won't tell me. So tell me now."

Woah that wasn't how I planned it.

"I don't need you to help me. I am doing just fine." He said calmly, "There is nothing wrong with me, but thank you for worrying."

"Hayden, shut up. You know there something wrong. So tell me." I demanded.

He looked at me and simply said, "No."

"Why?"

"There is nothing for me to tell. So stop trying to weasel into my life!" He snapped and glued his eyes to the book.

Man...I think I went to far.

"Are you nuts?! You went way too far!" Rachel exclaimed and threw her hands up in the air.
"Hayden is a man of mystery, but that doesn't mean you have to know everything about him yet!"

Sarah was still in her operation when I came to the hospital. I told Rachel what I said and asked her opinion. "Good gravy, girl! You're mental!" Lucas was just sitting on the couch looking down at his fidget spinner. According to Rachel he hadn't said a word.

"You need to go back there and apologize to him. He was right you do not have to weasel into his life." Rachel said.

"But Rachel!" I said sitting down next to her on the couch, "Admit it. You want to know what is going on with Hayden. I know it's not like me to intrude on peoples affairs, but he's so...I don't know!"

"That is true. But you still had no right to nose your way into his business!"

You're sounding like my mom.

"I mean tell her, Lucas!" Said. Rachel, turning to Lucas.

"She is right." Said Lucas.

"Fine. I'll text him. I don't think he will want to see me after what I said." I whipped out my phone and started sending a text to Hayden.

Sarah POV

"Miss Bryan? Can you hear me?"

My eyes fluttered open and I was in my hospital room.
"Oh she's awake! Miss Bryan, do you know who I am?" A nurse came up to me.

"You're Miss Donna." I croaked out. I hadn't talked in a long time it felt like my voice wasn't even there.

"Do you know who this is?" Ask Miss Donna. Lucas was sitting by my bedside. I smiled, "Thats Lucas!"

The nurses asked me a few questions before they left me. "How are you feeling?" Lucas asked. "I am feeling fit as a fiddle."
"You know you scared us a lot." He chuckled.
"Well what did I miss? I bet you guys have a whole story to tell me. I don't really remember anything."

Ama POV

Sarah was awake. Lucas seemed happy. Rachel definitely seemed happy since Lucas was happy. I think you can truly call them a couple.

I texted Hayden but he didn't reply back.

Gosh darn it, Ama! You always are so awkward! Why do you always have to say things you don't mean to say? I definitely need to think before I act. Now he probably hates me. Great Ama you just lost a friend.

Lucas, Rachel and Sarah were all laughing about something, but I was just on the chair thinking about how stupid I was.

"Hey, Ama. Are you all right?" Sarah's soft voice asked.
"Oh yeah I'm fine!" No I'm not.

"You seem out of it. Do you need a glass of water?" Sarah asked.
"No, but thank you. You really need to rest." I smiled to her.

Sarah and Lucas's parents came in every now and then. They had full-time jobs so they could never really be with Sarah.

Lucas fell sleep at Sarah's side. Rachel fell sleep on the couch and I was just still in the chair thinking about how stupid I am.

It was 2 o'clock in the morning I still haven't gone to sleep. I decided to walk out into the hall and go to the vending machine to get myself a drink.
I popped in 50¢ and out came a Dr Pepper. I walked back into the bedroom and plopped down in my chair and thought again. I picked up my phone to scroll through social media, but nothing interesting happened.

I hope I just didn't ruin a relationship.

"Why are you still awake?" I turned and Sarah sitting up in her hospital bed, her hand on Lucas's.

"I'm just thinking." I smiled.
"About Hayden?" I raised an eyebrow, "Rachel told me. Are you okay?"
"It wasn't a fight...sorta."
"If you want to talk about it I'm always here." We both smiled.

Sarah was the sweetest little girl I've ever known.

She soon drifted off into sleep but I still stared out the window.

I'm sorry, Hayden.
