"Oh god, what happened?"
"Who is that?"
"I don't know. She's pretty banged up."
"Where did she come from?"
"No idea. We need to get her to a hospital or something. She hit her head pretty hard."
I hear all these voices saying different things. Are those the voices of the angels? Is Andrew here? He must be. He was with me when I jumped. I felt myself hit the ground. I must be dead. Right?
"Is she awake?"
"Hard to tell. There was blood coming from her head. I think her ankle's broken, too."
"Oh, jeez. We need to get her to the hospital as soon as possible."
"Andrew?" I ask.
Something moves. "Dude! She's awake. Miss, are you okay? Where does it hurt?"
"I don't hurt. I feel numb."
"She must be going into shock or something. I read something about this online once. She's going to die soon if we don't get her to a hospital."
"Alright. Let's go."
Something lifts me and I get that sensation of floating again. I focus on the warm, tingly, numb feeling. There's a white dot in the distance. It's the light. I guess I have to fight for death. So that's what I'll do.
I begin to crawl over to the white dot. It slowly but surely begins to widen. Warmth brushes past me and it soothes me. Voices swirl past my head in a droned out mess. I pay no mind to it. Those voices won't be important once I reach the light. All that'll be important is Andrew and our eternal love. I've missed him so much. Seven months without him has felt like an eternity and it's impossible to stay here any longer. He has my heart. And home is where the heart is. I've been spending so many days without my heart. So it's time to go home.
I reach out to the light as it moves toward me. Once my hand touches it, cold air is rushed into my lungs suddenly. My eyes jolt open in surprise as I cough. This isn't Heaven. Dammit. I was so close.
When I attempt to cover my mouth, I realize that everything in my body hurts. It hurts to breathe. It hurts my head to just have my eyes open. My right ankle is absolutely killing me. I look to see my hands all scraped up. They've obviously been cleaned out. God, everything hurts to badly. I would much rather be dead right now. Why am I not dead? I just jumped out of a twelve story window. I really have horrible luck.
"You're awake."
I quickly look up at a man in a white coat. "Hello there, Miss," he says kindly, sitting on the edge of my bed with a clipboard. "Would you mind telling me your name?"
"Um..."
"Do you not know your name?" he asks worriedly.
I really don't. "Um, no."
"How do you feel, Miss?"
"Pretty bad," I say honestly. "Why does everything hurt? And where am I?"
"You're at the hospital, Miss. You fell out of a twelve story window. It was your lucky day, though. You landed on someone's fire escape. They were on the seventh floor, so you fell about five stories. The impact broke your ankle and you have a pretty severe concussion. Memory loss is pretty common from the circumstances and the medication you're on. You also have a sprained wrist and some bruised ribs. You're bruised up pretty bad, too."
"I have to get out of here," I urge, attempting to sit up. A beeping machine starts beeping rapidly. I look around frightened.
"No, no," the man pushes me back down gently. "You are in no shape to go home. You'll have to stay here for a couple of days. To fully recover from your concussion, you need to sleep. We are going to leave you in complete darkness for a few days. You just sleep. Whenever you need to use the restroom or want food or anything at all, just page us. We're here to help you. After a few days, we'll help you regain your memory. You probably won't be home for maybe a week and a half."
