Chapter 8, stairway to heavean

Y/n POV

Hanji and Mike walked into the awkward silence immediately breaking the peace. With Olivia singing but that's okay.

"What did I miss?" Hanji asked over enthusiastically.

"Nothing, let's get moving, can you walk Mike?" Erwin asked.

"Yeah, I can manage." He replied weakly. He looked towards me  and he, HE SNIFFED ME. And then smiled, what's up with this guy?

Olivia started skipping and humming a sweet tune, her feet pattering on the pavement. We all followed as I had a feeling they knew I wasn't going to wear handcuffs, wherever Olivia goes I follow, they don't need to force me.

"Da, da, da." She sang, I know that song, I usually hum it when I'm happy. Olivia must have remembered it. She looked up to Shortie

"Hey do you like it?" She questioned to Levi.

"Hm, like what?" He replied.

"The tune, silly." She said smiling cutely tilting her head to the side, Anything that reminds me of them just I can't deal with it.

"Yes it is nice." He flatly put brushing her off awkwardly.

"Just nice?" She continued.

"It's... very nice." Levi answered back, more sincerely this time.

I could feel a confused scowl cross my face, why is he being nice to her. Mike looked at me and raised his eyebrows. I shook my head saying nothing and continued walking.

Olivia skipped next to him. He looked down and- wait what the hell, he sniffed Olivia. I went to grab him but Hanji gripped my arm. If it was anyone else I would've flipped them but I turned and growled

"What."

She whispered "He sniffs everyone, its like he is checking you, to see if you are alright, if he smiles he likes ya if not he's uncertain, he would never just hate someone for their smell." She explained smiling as if SNIFFING someone was NORMAL! I smiled trying to cover my uncertainty. She smiled back seeing through the act

"You'll get used to it, he means no harm." She said.

"Okay." I said brushing her off.

We walked back through the market with Olivia skipping at the front, it had emptied now only a few people remained, so I allowed Olivia to carry on skipping in front of me.

I watched as her hair bounced up and down swaying to the beat she was humming. She was so adorable. I could see Levi looking at her as well, more of a soft expression on his face.

We reached the stairway to heaven, I call it, but it really just leads to the outside world above, where the trees grow and living things grow. I bet the air smells so fresh and clean up there.

Olivia stopped as we reached the stairway and ran back to me,

"Well, here we are, see you guys later, we better be heading of, you interrupted our breakfast!" She said hugging my leg. I picked her up.

"Olivia we are going with them, to live up there." I pointed up the stairs, she looked up confused
"I know it's sudden but we don't really have a choice love." I said ruffling her hair.

"As long as you're going then I'll tag along." She said grinning form ear to ear, her dimples clearly showing.

"Ugh, I was hoping I'd leave you here Olivia, guess we have to bring you." I said sarcastically.

"Ha, yeah right!" She said uncertainly.

"Olivia I'm kidding, I'd never leave you down here would I?" I said kissing her forehead.

"Nope, and I'd never leave ya down 'ere either." She said proudly.

"I know."

"Right then let's get moving, we have a carriage waiting for you, Levi will be going with you just incase you try to pull anything on us." Erwin directed to you.

"C'MON THEN LETS GO." I roared a little aggressively. I picked up Olivia and ran at quite a slow pace but I still sped right past Hanji even with Olivia. As we reached the top I smiled triumphantly down at Hanji.

"Wow-your-f-fast." Hanji breathed breathlessly.

Levi was still walking but I could see him smiling. He turned his head in my direction and immediately his smile fading replaced with an emotionless exterior. These people seem okay, but I have a feeling not everyone will welcome us as politely as they have.
