I was suddenly awoken again by the sound of wind against the one window in the room. The light flashed occasionally from lightning in the distance and raindrops rested on the glass. I stood up and tried to step towards it, but the three foot chain held me back. Sighing in disappointment, I almost fell onto the hard wood floor as the ship rocked back and forth on the rough seas. She grey sky seemed to taunt me as the room was illuminated and shook by the thunder.
Only my good arm was trapped, but if I could get my other arm outstretched it would hurt, but I could open the window. All I wanted was a breath of that fresh air, and then I would return to my original position.
Slowly I removed my arm and reached out. I only winced in pain when the ship rocked suddenly or I stumbled. Inches from the window sill. I touched it lightly with my fingertips. I still had enough slack. Quietly I pushed the heavy but tiny window open. As I poked my face through, I could feel the frosty breeze and the ocean spray on my face and sighed with a smile.
Being confined in a small space after having the freedom to roam your whole life takes a toll on your mind. For just a few moments It felt as if I could reach out and touch the trees I saw in my mind. My bad arm was rested against the small window sill while the other was stretched out and still connected to the chain. My wrist had become sore, but I didn't care. The freedom was worth it.
I had become too distracted by my imagination to see or hear Hook enter the room. "Ay!" He shouted. I jumped sideways with surprise, pulling my wrist. "I-I was just-" my explanation was invalid and seen as a lie at this point. "I let you up here and you're already trying to escape!" Before I could find my voice to say anything else, he yanked the chain, causing it to dig into my wrist and I fell onto my back into the darkness of the small room below. The door was slammed above me, but I just rolled over and pulled my knees to my chest. After giving me a look of disgust, he turned to walk away.
I began to sob as I began to miss the little light I was able to see. All I wanted was always little freedom. And Baelfire. That was all I needed.
"Bae, Bae wherever you are, just know that I'll come back for you, I will find you," I said through my tears, "and when I come back, we'll run far away and leave behind all of this." I prayed that some magic in this world had sent the message to him. I didn't care if anyone heard me. It didn't matter now.______________________________________
After crying for a while, I napped softly under the burlap blanket. I knew hook had heard me crying, for when he returned, he opened the hatch and unlocked the cuff that connected me to the wall. "Come on love," he said, offering me a hand, "let's get your some fresh air. As soon as I stepped, two other pirates held my arms and cuffed my hands behind my back. I sighed in annoyance. "Sorry mate, can't have you playing tricks." I didn't know how long is been aboard this ship, but I had never been on the deck consciously.
I carefully stumbled up the steps and onto the slippery deck above, but my eyes were focused on the sky. It was grey as the rain fell lightly and glistened like jewels on my hair. In the distance, a ray of sun broke through, reflecting off the small portion of water it touched. Again, I was jolted from my thoughts as I was pushed along by the two pirates. Hook stood feet Infront of me as he lead us up near the large wooden wheel that steered the small ship. As hook took the wheel, the two men gave me one more shove before walking away, causing me to stumble. It was so quiet, so peaceful with only the sound of the wind and the waves licking at the wood.
I too was silent. I watched the water churn behind us as the wind blew through my dirty, worn clothes. I nearly forgot the cuffs holding me back, for I was enchanted by the beauty of the sea I had only heard stories of, even as it seemed so familiar.
"So who are you, girl?" He said, looking over his shoulder to send a look of confusion on my face. "I know you're not human, I mean, judging by the fact you were a wolf a few days ago. But what do I know? I'm just a blind idiot." I didn't have to look up from my boot covered feet to know he was smirking. "I-I don't k-know," I stuttered truthfully, for I had no clue myself. I fiddled with my fingers behind my back, having nothing else to do with my hands. The cuffs tight around my thin wrists. They were sore, one from being injured and the other from being chained the days before. Though I was still staring at my feet, I could feel his eyes on me.
"Ah, well that could pose some problems," he said with little emotion in his voice. I tried to force a small smile, but it resulted only in me turning back to look at the water. He now leaned against the wheel, looking at me as I stared off into the distance. His eyes on my back made me tense. I turned to the right and took two steps before slipping on a puddle. To my surprise, I ever got the ground. Hook had stepped out to catch me. Gently he stood me up. "T-Thanks," I mumbled. I didn't know what's else to say. "No need," he said to me, "seeing you don't have your hands at the ready, seemed it was only fit."
I smiled then, but no one could see, for I was facing the other way. Little did I know it wouldn't be the last.
