Jay and I spoke for a while before we began to chase each other around the clearing. He once ran into the forest, leaving me standing at the edge. He turned to look at me. "what's wrong, you scared?" He teased. "Yes," I said quietly, "I am."
I knew Pan was watching. He always was. Jay came back into the clearing and put his arm around my shoulder before we sat down against a tree. "So how'd you get here, anyway?" He asked curiously. I thought of lying, but something kept me from it. "I was living in the woods with a boy," I began, smiling at the thought of Baelfire, "but I was kidnapped by a pirate and brought here." I could see the amusement on his face and let out a small laugh. "You're so strange, you know that?" "You're the strange one," he retorted before playfully punching me in the shoulder and running off. I shook my head and laughed.
I brushed my hair out of my face only to feel a smile on my face. I wasn't afraid because it went unnoticed. I was afraid because it was real. I quickly made it disappear, for Pan's voice could be heard near by. My sigh was audible but soft. Soon he was directly in front of me and my heart sank. That smile that haunted me no matter where I went, laced with poison. My arm throbbed just thinking of what could happen.
"Time to go," he said devilishly, offering his hand to help me stand. Cautiously I reached out and was pulled to my feet. I followed him through the camp and to a path that led into the forest. I stopped and stared out at it. "Well come on," he said,"don't be afraid, you've got my permission." My permission. The words made me want to scream. I stepped into the shade of the trees, as the sun had began to rise. When my bare feet hit the cool earth, I could feel my memories or Baelfire come back to haunt me. My expression barely changed, but of course, he noticed. "Something the matter?" He said mockingly. "Of course not, I'm perfectly fine," I said sarcastically, "I love being stuck on this bloody island!"
"Ah there's that fire again. The same fire that got you a bruise and a broken rib." I shut up after that and just walked next to him in silence. The breeze was eerie and I wished I could just run away from this. I didn't realize I had stopped moving until I saw how far Infront of me pan was. He hadn't seen me stop and thought I was behind him. Now was my chance. I slowly walked off the path and into the brush before sprinting into the dense forest.
I knew eventually I would hit the edge of island. I could hear the echos of yelling, but it was far behind me. Then I heard them from my left. I wouldn't make the same mistake that I did before. My hands grasped the bark of the tree as I pulled myself up. I could hear them growing closer.
I could see the edge of the water and a few small boats on the shore. I began to keep moving, but an arrow whizzed past me. "Pan wants her alive!" I here Felix shout. I kept leaping through the trees until like lost my footing and fell to the ground. "Ugh," I groaned as I tried to push myself off the ground. I could see a wide circle form around me as Felix approached. I pushed my self away, still on the ground. He grabbed my arm and pulled me to my feet, his stern face towering above me. Even though my eyes never left the ground, I could feel Pan's presence. I'd messed up too badly to avoid punishment.
"Leave us," he said, shewing of everyone but Felix, who let go of me and backed away. My knees began to shake. My hair covered my face as pan walked in circles around me. I didn't speak. I didn't cry. I just listened. "I see I was wrong about you," he said with a devil's laugh,"you're stronger than you look. But don't worry, your bravery will be gone soon enough." I could feel his breath on my ear now. My knees gave out and I collapsed to the ground. I could barely breathe, but Pan made it worse. He used his magic. The air seemed to leave my lungs.
When he finally returned my ability to breathe, I gasped for air. I thought he was done. I was wrong.as he walked by he kicked me in the side. I winced, but didn't move from my spot on the ground. One kick to my back and I dug my fingers into the earth. His foot crushed my hand, and finally, he grabbed me by my collar and threw me against a tree.
I wasn't crying, but I was shaking excessively. I could barely move, and it took all my effort to pull my knees to my chest and rest my head against the wood. I could see him bend down to my level and smirked. I didnt turn to look at him. My heart beat was quick and tears rose in my eyes. "Clever, but not quick," he said quietly in my ear.
After pan left, I was dragged away by some other boys and thrown in a cage. It was hung from a tree, no fires burned close enough to keep me warm. All I could do was think and hope that someone would come for me.
When I woke in the middle of the night, I could here pan and Felix talking. "What do you plan on doing with her?" "Once she knows she can't leave, I'll let her roam the island. As long as no one can use her against us, we are safe.Safe?
