I didn't know how long it had been, for time stood still in this land. But counting sunrises and sunsets, I guessed it had been at least three or four days. I hadn't eaten since I got here. I had more broken ribs and bruises on my hand, back, and side. I could only hear the occasional gust of wind and chirping of the birds. I hadn't changed my sitting position because of the pain.
I had seen Baelfire in my restless sleep. His father killed another innocent man. Bae was still lonely. I had tried to get back to him. But I couldn't. I was trapped.
I watched the sun rise and all it's beautiful hues shine down on my loneliness. I thought of caught a glimpse of the jolly Roger in the distance. I moved closer to the side of the cage and stuck my arm out to feel the warmth. The yellow light sent chills down my spine. "Save me," I whispered, a tear trailing down my dirty cheek.
Suddenly Pan was there, sitting in the tree my cage hung from. I hadn't seen anyone since I tried to run off. "Morning, sunshine," he said as he cut the rope suspending me off the ground. My body jolted when it hit the ground, causing me to groan. He opened the door of the cage, but any move I made just hurt. "Someone seems a little out of shape," he said teasingly before offering his hand. Like he'd done last time. I took it, stifling back a scream of agony. When I was pulled out, I breathed heavily as I leaned against a tree holding my side. "Please," I said between breaths, "I-I can't move anymore," I mumbled. He scoffed and held laughed. "Coming from the one who tried to run away. Just walk." Taking a deep breath, my left leg pushed forward and I almost fell. But I took a few more steps, which was still painful, but I got my balance.
We made it back to the camp and I saw Jay waiting by the entrance. It wasn't enough to make me smile, but maybe he would help me stay standing. Pan, well ahead of me, whispered something in his ear and then turned back to me. "You will not go out of his sight, or else you'll be finding yourself a little too close to death."
As pan disappeared into the crowd of boys, I took a step closer to lean on Jay, for he could see I was struggling to stay standing. "Here, let me help you," he said, picking me up bridal style and resting me against a tree. I moved my shirt out of the way as he wrapped a cast around my ribs. He then made a cast for my hand.
"Thanks," I said as I used the tree to stand. "No need," he replied, offering his arm to me. After refusing it politely, I tried cautiously behind Jay. I noticed him glance back at me every few minutes. He too was sceptical of my intentions. I could feel the laughing and whispering around me. Ignoring them was impossible. One of them tried to trip me, while the others threw pebbles and rude remarks.
It was so fast. A grip around my arm. Ripped away from Jay and into a circle of boys. A stick thrown my way. "Fight me, coward," a boy mocked. I was so weak I could barely hold the weapon I was given. I tried to push my fears away and find something useful in my mind. too slow.
I blocked everything he threw at me and ducked under him. Jay was quick to find me and grabbed my weapon from me. When I backed up out of the circle, I ran into Pan. He gave me that look as if I'd tried to get out of here again. "I-" "Sky,let's go." It was Jay, back again to save me. "Lucky you," Pan whispered before wandering away.
