~Devina's POV~
I've felt my heart break before, like when my dad left us. Or me I guess. Before all this, he gifted me Mr. Freddles. Another wave of tears fell down my face at the horrid memory of his cold lifeless body on the cement. I heard a soft knock on my bedroom door and I groaned.
"Go away, Zane!" I sobbed, then heard the door open and close.
"Baby I'm so sorry." I felt the bed dip down but I kept my head buried under the soft comforter. "I'll get you a new-" I yanked the covers away from my face and sat up so quickly I thought for sure I would get whiplash.
"You can't just buy me a new one Zane!" I screamed. "You know my dad gave him to me the night before he left. You can't just replace him, Zane." He leaned forwards and wiped a few of my tears with his thumb.
"I know. I just don't want you to be in pain anymore." It was kind of ironic he said that because ever since I've met him, I've felt nothing but pain. Physically and mentally. "Will you come out and eat something, please? It's been a day."
"I'm good." And with that, I curled up into a little ball on my side so that my knees were touching the wall and tried to hold back my tears.
"You didn't eat the sandwich I left you earlier." He continued but I just shrugged. "Don't like peanut butter and jelly?" He tried again but it was no use.
"I wasn't hungry." I lied
"Sunshine, please eat something. If not for you, then for me?" I shook my head.
"I'm not hungry."
"Then drink some water." I felt him reach for my water glass on my side table but I just shook my head again.
"Not thirsty." He took a deep breath and scooted closer to me. "What are you doing?" I asked, now annoyed.
"Trying to comfort you." He said in a duh tone and curled up next to me. He pulled me into his chest and slung his around my waist. "Is it working?" I hesitated then nodded. His touch made everything better. I snuggled into the warm covers and drifted off to sleep.
When I woke up, I smelled pancakes and my favorite syrup. I chuckled softly, almost a hundred percent sure this was a dream and rolled over on to my back. Slowly opening my eyes, I could still smell the pancakes. I quickly sat up and rushed downstairs. In the kitchen, Zane was making pancakes.
"What's this?" I slowly asked and he swiftly turned around.
"You're up." He grinned and walked over to one of the many cupboards in the spacious kitchen. Pulling out two plates he filled one with four pancakes and handed it to me. I eagerly took the plate and gave him a soft smile. "You like pancakes?" He asked as he got himself a plate and led us to the dining room that was now furnished.
"No. I love them." I reached across the table for the syrup. "Pecan?" I asked and he nodded.
"It's my favorite I hope you don't mind." I looked up into his eyes and smiled.
