The day soon passed, and so did the week. It was finally Saturday. My graduation party. I looked in the mirror one last time, fixing up my makeup and hair, before hurrying downstairs into the backyard.

"There's my college student!" My mom squealed and pulled me into her arms. Mostly everyone here was my friends, Gwen's friends and some of my teachers. They stopped talking and looked at me with smiles on their face.

"Technically, I'm not in college yet mom." Everyone laughed and cheered.

"SOON!" Dylan yelled from the crowd before sending me an apologetic smile and walking into the house, his phone held up to his ear.

"Thanks, everyone. For coming. Now enjoy the party!" I cheered myself and the music started playing, making people dance and laugh. Things really are great. I thought.

~Zane's POV~

"Where is she, Dylan? Please, I know you're the only one she would come to after all that. But you have to believe me. April put me under some kind of spell. She was never my mate. Devina is! Now tell me where the fuck she is!" It's been three days since I snapped out of April's spell and I still have no clue where Devina is.

"Zane," Dylan barely whispered, making my heart stop.

"She's not dead. Don't you dare tell me she is, brother!" I screamed into the phone, tears streaming down my face.

"I'm at her graduation party. She finished high school with straight A's man." I slowly made my way down to the floor and smiled.

"She's so brilliant," I whispered. "What else?" I begged, eager to get my hands on any information about her.

"She got into the University of Southern California. USC. She's super excited." My heart melted with adoration. She's doing so good.

"What about friends?"

"She has two best friends. I think they remind her of Gillie and Henry. They're pretty good people. The guy though, Logan, he has a huge sailors mouth. He's annoying sometimes. But he treats Devin good. They both do."

"Devin? She goes by that now?" This surprised me. Did she completely start over?

"Yeah. She was adopted also. Gwen is her name, she really loves her. Like her own kid. Devin also had her birthday a few months ago. She's eighteen now." A tear escaped my cheek and landed on the carpet of the hotel I was staying in.

"Has," I stopped and tilted my head back. "Has she moved on?" I finally questioned, barely even a whisper.

"With anyone? No. She's doing better though. She smiles and laughs. She glows." I choked on a sob. "If anyone brings you up though, she shuts them down. She doesn't like talking about you. Not even to me. I do think she's doing better, but she hasn't moved on from you yet. You're her mate."

"That's why I need to see her. I need to, Dylan. Is she in California? Is that where she lives now?"

"You hurt her man. A lot. But yes. We live in California, she lives with Gwen." Just as he finished that sentence, I heard a door open on his line and footsteps approach. "Hey, what are you doing in here? Shouldn't you be outside?" He asked the person.

"I got bored." I almost fainted when I heard her voice. With my heart beating fast, I stood up and clutched the phone closer. "Who are you talking to?" I didn't hesitate to act.

"Devina!" I yelled. "Give the damn phone to her Dylan!"

"D-Dylan? Why-how-" Either she was cut off or she cut herself off but I heard more shuffling then her rapid breathing on the other end. I closed my eyes and smiled. It was almost like she was here with me.

"Sunshine," I whispered.

"No. You don't get to call me that anymore! It's just a name, it didn't mean anything to you. I was never really your sunshine was I? I was just your entertainment. Your replacement for her. For your first mate. Was I ever even your mate?"

"No Devina, please just listen. Just hear me out. April isn't my mate, you are! You are my Sunshine. You're the one I want. You're the only one I want." She dryly laughed.

"Bullshit." I flinched back, not used to hearing her cuss. I sucked in a deep breath and put talking to Logan on my bucket list. "You chose her Zane. You always will."

"She's dead." I softly spoke, while standing up.

"Oh, so that's why you're talking to me." Devina scoffed and slammed a door shut. "We never officially broke up." She finally spoke. My heart picked up as I exited the hotel room."That's why I'm doing it now. It's over Zane. We're over." I ran out of the hotel and hopped into my car.

"I'm coming to you, Devina. I-There's so much I need to explain to you, just not over the phone. Please tell me where you are."

"Not with you, that's for sure. Just stay away Zane." I started the Tesla and headed for California. "It's been a year. You clearly moved on, now please just let me move on too. I'm trying so hard, why can't you respect that?" Her voice cracked and I felt terrible for making her cry. How many times had I caused her tears to fall? I wondered.

"April put me under a spell. Remember how I explained when she and I met? I said at first I felt nothing towards her then all of a sudden I loved her. Devina when I first saw you, I fell in love. She wasn't ever my mate. You are. When you and I met, everyone told me that it's impossible to have two mates and they're right. I never had two mates. It was just you. And back there, when I saw her, something pushed me back and took control of my body. You know me, Devina, I would never do that." She sniffled and repositioned the phone, maybe moving it to the other ear.

"No. I thought I knew you. Obviously, I didn't."

"Listen to me Sunshine. You pulled me out of that spell. I was in the bedroom and finally found your old note. The one you probably left right before you ran away. I did promise. I promised you that I'd never hurt you and I broke that promise. Probably more times then I'll ever even be able to comprehend but I'll promise you something else. I love you. That never changed, it never will." There was an excruciatingly long pause before she finally whispered something.

"L.A. I live in L.A." I turned into the airport and parked my car.

"What's your number? So you can text me the address?"

"No Zane. This doesn't mean I forgive you, because I sure as hell don't. I'm not sure I ever will. I just want some closure so I can move on." I swallowed the lump forming in my throat and slowly nodded.

"Please just give me your address Sunshine." I pleaded as I entered the airport.

"Don't," I could feel her anger through the mate bond. "Don't call me that. My name's Devin." After a few more times begging, she finally told me her address then hung up without saying anything. I jogged up to the front desk of the airport and waited for the lady to get off the phone.

"Hi, I need an urgent flight to L.A," I spoke as she hung up the phone. She looked down at her computer and frowned.

"I'm sorry sir, but all flights are booked until next Friday." I groaned and pulled out my phone.

"I need my private jet. Now." I sternly commanded into my phone then hung up. They can figure everything else out. Right now I need to figure out how to get my girl back.
