Zane didn't let me go to school for the next few days or even leave his side. Even when I had to take a shower, he would pull the seat of the toilet down and read a magazine. He refused to let me hang out with anyone alone and without him. That's why when he said he had to go to a meeting with a bunch of other alphas, I was worried. Gillie and Henry went to Paris for their anniversary. But that was a while ago. She said that they loved it so much that they're staying longer. So, inviting her over wasn't a realistic option. I miss her.

"I'll only be gone a few hours. I'll be back by one." I furrowed my brows, it was twelve in the afternoon now. "Am." He added. I nodded and looked away. "Hey," He pulled me off of the couch with his arms and kissed my forehead. "I'll miss you." I nodded again and sat back down on the couch, trying to make him leave sooner. Rip the band-aid off. He sighed but still didn't leave. "I'm not going to leave with you being mad at me. I can't be distracted for this meeting Sunshine." I peered around him at the TV that he was blocking.

"I'm not mad Zane. Just leave." He jerked back as if I had just slapped him.

"Listen I-" He was cut off by the doorbell and I rushed to answer it. There stood Everett. As soon as he noticed I had opened the door his face filled with concern.

"Are you okay? I heard everything that's happened." Zane pushed past me and pinned Everett against the outside wall of the house.

"Zane!" I yelled and tried my best to pull him away from the poor boy. "Stop otherwise I won't talk to you ever again!" I screamed making him jerk back and turned towards me.

"I was just checking up on her man," Zane growled and send Everett a death glare.

"Why? She's not interested in you." I grabbed Zane's arm and pulled him towards me.

"You're right. I'm not. I'm only interested in you, you are my boyfriend right?" I felt stupid for asking this because even though during out little moment when he said we were together, we had never actually put a label on it and honestly it was bugging me crap out of me. Zane grinned.

"Yes. And you're my girlfriend." I smiled and pecked his cheek. "Mine." He emphasized and looked towards Everett.

"Dude, I have my own mate. No offense Devina, but I'm not interested in you like that." I laughed and made Zane look at me.

"Now you're going to be late. Just go I'll be fine." I assured him. Zane hesitantly took a step back and looked from Everett to me. I motioned towards his car, telling him to go with my eyes.

"I'm going to take my Audi in the garage. If you need to, take the GT-R. Okay?" I rolled my eyes but nodded. He walked forward with his arms opened and I giggled. He pecked my lips and jogged towards the garage. I pulled Everett inside before Zane could change his mind and sat down on the couch, making sure Everett sat far away.

"Why are you here Everett?" I finally spoke. He crossed his legs and rested his arms on the back of the couch.

"Can't I just say hello to my enemies girlfriend?" I sent him a glare.

"That's not what people usually do." I pointed out. He chuckled.

"Yeah, you're right." He nodded and looked away. I narrowed my eyes and laughed.

"You want girl advice!" His eyes snapped towards mine and he jerked forward.

"What? No way!" I giggled and leaned forward too, "Fine!" He whispered yelled, maybe a little paranoid about werewolf super hearing. Which made me think.

"Are you a..." I trailed off. He nodded and laughed.

"Yes. But I need advice with my mate." I nodded and urged him to continue. "She's beautiful Devina." He smiled and looked past me. "I just found her a few weeks ago but she's too good for me. She's a straight-A student. She's so innocent and pure. She's perfect." He frowned and looked back at me. "I'm not Devina. I feel like if I touch her, she'll break. And if she breaks I'll break. She doesn't trust me. Like at all. She knows all about my reputation and even though I've changed since I met her, my past can't change." He sounded so exposed talking about her like this, and to me out of all people. I wondered why he picked me but chose not to ask. "She's a witch." He grinned. "A really good one too. But she refuses to use her magic on anyone unless she's in danger. Which makes me like her even more." I smiled.

"She seems like a keeper." He nodded.

"If only I played soccer." I cracked up at his bad joke if you could even call it that. "No, but seriously I really like her. But I don't think she likes me back."

"There's no way she doesn't. The mate pull is too strong no matter how much she tries to deny it. You just need to show her your true self." I thought about all the ways Zane tried to impress me and my eyes widened. "But don't try to buy her. Some girls may like that but not girls like us."

"Yeah, I've noticed. The first time she agreed to let me take her out, she refused to get in any fancy car." He laughed. We spent the next few hours talking about silly things and before I knew it, Zane and Jonah walked in through the door laughing. Zane stopped as soon as he saw Everett still here. Everett took that as a cue and stood up. "Thanks for the help Devina." He winked when he said help, probably not wanting the boys to know he wanted advice. Zane frowned and watched as Everett left the house then turned back towards me with hurt written all over his face.

"He was here the whole time?" He finally asked. Jonah shifted uncomfortably as the tension in the room rose.

"He needed..." I searched for the right words then decided to just use the same ones Everett did. Stick to the story. "Help with something." Zane flinched again.

"Yeah well so do I. Come on Jonah." He turned towards the door making my heart race.

"Zane please don't leave-" He turned around and dryly laughed. He opened his mouth to say something, but then decided against it and hurried out the door, slamming it behind him and Jonah. As soon as I heard his car zoomed away, I fell to my knees and that's where I stayed for the next few hours. When I finally snapped out of it, it was nearly five in the morning. I forced myself not to cry as I grabbed a blanket from the back of the couch and walked to the backyard. I laid down on the patio couch and drifted off to sleep.

~Zane's POV~

I forced information out of Everett and felt terrible afterward. He was asking Devina for advice about his mate. I jumped in the car and hurried back home to my girl. On the way back, I dropped Jonah off so it was just me when I finally got home. Inside, I didn't hear her. I scanned the living room and when she wasn't there I started to worry. Next, I checked in my room but still no luck. I rushed to her room but she wasn't here either. I ran my fingers through my hair.

"Devina!?" I yelled. No response. "Damn it." I closed my eyes and followed her scent to the back door. I started panicking. What if she left? But then I found her curled up in a tiny ball on the couch outside. I sighed and went to pick her up but she jerked awake and pushed me back. "Devina it's okay. It's just me." She continued to push me away and stood up.

"Why are you here?" She frantically asked. I frowned.

"Why wouldn't I be here?" I slowly asked.

"Because you left!" She cried. My heart dropped as I realized what she thought.

"No no no. I didn't leave you Sunshine. I would never leave you." She shook her head and tried to walk away from me but I grabbed her arm and pulled her into my chest. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to scare you." After she calmed down a little, I picked her up and carried her to our bed. "Goodnight," I whispered as she drifted off to sleep. I felt terrible for causing her so much pain and misery but I know for sure that I love her and can't let her go. No matter what.
